Marketing Manager

About The Position

The Marketing Manager plays a hands-on role in driving NSD’s marketing and proposal operations. Approximately 70% of this role is direct execution—writing, editing, producing, organizing—while the remaining 30% focuses on team coordination and oversight. This role leads internal marketing efforts, coordinates business development activities, and owns the systems, content, and tools that support our proposals and brand presence. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented, with strong industry experience and a willingness to produce high-quality deliverables directly. This position supervises one Proposal Coordinator with potential capacity to hire additional support as NSD continues to grow. This is not a strategy or management-only position. It’s a hands-on role that requires someone comfortable rolling up their sleeves to write, edit, troubleshoot, and coordinate deliverables while managing systems and supporting senior technical staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or related field
  • 7–10 years of experience in AEC, environmental consulting, or similar technical services
  • Proven experience managing proposals and directly producing high-quality proposal content
  • Strong writing, editing, formatting, and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with CRM systems (VantagePoint preferred), SharePoint, and version control
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign in particular)
  • Experience mentoring or coordinating junior staff or contractors

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end development and submission of ~6–8 proposals/SOQs per month, including writing, editing, and formatting.
  • Coordinate Go/No-Go decisions, proposal schedules, and responsibilities to maintain clarity and accountability.
  • Maintain and improve NSD’s CRM (VantagePoint) and core content libraries (resumes, project descriptions, templates).
  • Ensure brand, formatting, and content consistency across all external-facing materials.
  • Step in to directly produce or edit proposal content during peak volume or when timelines are tight.
  • Build and maintain organized, accessible systems for content reuse, version control, and file structure.
  • Administer templates and workflows for proposals, project sheets, resumes, and other marketing assets.
  • Track and report on BD and marketing KPIs using CRM and other internal tools.
  • Lead post-submission debriefs and document lessons learned to improve future performance.
  • Supervise and mentor the Proposal Coordinator; coordinate work assignments, status tracking, and deadlines.
  • Communicate clearly with technical staff and project managers to gather inputs and reduce last-minute delays.
  • Serve as point of contact for brand standards and outbound marketing materials.
  • Coordinate logistics and branded materials for conferences, events, and public engagements.
  • Provide light support for social media and other external-facing content (with room to grow).

Benefits

  • NSD offers competitive salary and benefits, including up to a 4% match on 401(K), 8 paid days off, and a generous tiered paid time off policy.
