About The Position

Texas Global is seeking a creative and detail-oriented undergraduate student with a background in videography, multimedia production, and photography to assist with the Marketing and Communications team’s visual storytelling. This position offers hands-on experience in editing video and photo, packaging visual journalistic stories, and collaborating with our team to enhance and promote our global portfolio through dynamic videos and photo essays. Marketing and Communications is the creative and marketing team for Texas Global, showcasing the depth and breadth of the University’s global engagement activities across campus and abroad, supporting the mission of the University and enhancing its reputation around the world through strategic messaging, branding, and storytelling.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite with an emphasis on video editing in Premiere Pro.
  • One or more years of experience or coursework in video editing, content creation, or journalism.
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in communications, fine arts, marketing or a related field.
  • Ability to capture photos and videos at events.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and highly organized with the ability to multitask.
  • Positive attitude and collaborative mindset.
  • Strong cross-cultural competency; ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with international students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external contacts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Expected to work 15-19 hours per week.
  • Must have a flexible schedule with the ability to work during weekends and evenings.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability to create concise, accurate, engaging, brand-appropriate content that adheres to AP Style, UT Editorial Style, and Texas Global Style.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English, including knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Proficiency with Drupal, WordPress, or other content management systems.
  • Experience working with international populations.
  • Cross-cultural competency and proficiency in a foreign language.
  • Additional work experience in sound recording or podcast production.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of SEO and/or web content best practices, blog and social media best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the writing team’s transition to a video-first approach.
  • Lead editing efforts for video that creates visually stimulating narratives.
  • Assist with coordination and approval of journalistic video packages and additional forms of visual storytelling.
  • Collaborate with social and web design teams to maximize content across platforms.
  • Capture, edit, and publish original, engaging visual stories for the Texas Global website.
  • Solicit, capture, select, and edit photo, video and audio assets to accompany written content.
  • Use cameras, lighting and audio equipment to interview and record sources and edit stories about current students, faculty, alumni, research, and programs.
  • Research story ideas and activities on campus pertaining to strategic regions and initiatives.
  • Monitor media on CSU sites across campus and other media outlets for story content.
