About The Position

The Marketing & Communications Intern will support the Communications team in executing day‑to-day marketing, branding, and internal/external communication initiatives for Shimmick and Axia Electric. This role is designed for a student looking to gain hands-on experience in social media management, content creation, brand development, and corporate communications within a fast-paced environment. This position will be required to be onsite in our Irvine, CA office.
Shimmick has a long history of completing complex water projects, ranging from the world’s largest wastewater recycling and purification system in California to the record-setting Hoover Dam. Requirements

• Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursing a Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, public relations, media studies or related field with the intent to continue enrollment after an internship.
• Must have completed at least 1 year of study
• Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite
• strong problem-solving skills and consistent attention to detail
• Ability to manage changing deadlines and work well under pressure for multiple team leaders
• Work independently and effectively to prioritize multiple tasks
• Highly organized with excellent time management skills
• Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

• A university student that has more than one year of school remaining before earning a degree preferred, these students typically are Freshmen, Sophomores, or Juniors in university. Successful Interns may be eligible to return for additional internships

Responsibilities

• Assist the Communication team with planning, drafting, and scheduling social media content across platforms for Shimmick and Axia Electric.
• Help gather photos, videos, and project updates to support content creation and audience engagement.
• Create basic graphics using Canva or similar tools under guidance from the Communications Specialist.
• Support brand development activities, including preparing materials for new brand rollouts and updating existing brand assets.
• Ensure brand consistency by helping review templates, graphics, and internal document
• Help maintain and update corporate websites by uploading new content such as project milestones, employee spotlights, and company news.
• Assist with organizing and posting updates to SharePoint or other internal communication platforms.
• Coordinate with departments such as Safety, HR, IT, and Payroll to collect information needed for newsletters, announcements, and campaigns.
