Powell’s 10-week paid internship program offers college students hands-on experience, professional training, and the opportunity to make an impact through a meaningful project aligned with your field of study. As a Research and Development Engineering Intern, you’ll focus on designing and optimizing indicators for high-speed mechanisms, gaining valuable skills in a dynamic, collaborative environment. The intern project involves producing reliability data for the PowlVac product line, using frameworks from industrial engineering and manufacturing disciplines, and conducting review and analysis of test data for the 38 kV product line to support product compliance.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Power Engineering, Industrial engineering, Manufacturing engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Rising Junior or Senior continuing studies in Fall 2027.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA and strong academic standing.
  • Team player with strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter with a dependable, can-do attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • CAD/FEA experience.
  • Projects or coursework related to design, prototyping, or testing, even if not directly tied to high-speed mechanisms.

Responsibilities

  • Produce reliability data for the PowlVac product line, using framework from industrial engineering and manufacturing disciplines, accounting for IEE 493-2007, and IEEE 2006 Series (other standards may be used).
  • Conduct review and analysis of test data of 38 kV product line to support product compliance.
  • Produce a technical report with raw data and reliability data, including as a minimum: MTBF, number of failures per unit per year, downtime hours, availability, mean time to repair, etc.
  • Perform analysis and present results in text and datasets with curves, pie charts, bar charts, etc.
  • Produce a technical report on the state of the 38kV product line testing database.
  • Organize the 38kV product line testing database in a better format.
  • Analyze met and required ratings for the 38kV product line.
  • Create an enhanced database with raw data and enhanced data for the 38kV product line.
