About The Position

Space Kinetic is a cleared, venture-backed startup focused on addressing urgent national security priorities. Their goal is to deliver a suite of asymmetric capabilities for space superiority and missile defense leveraging their proprietary electromechanical deployment system, which enables the rapid deployment of low-cost payloads through space without firing a thruster. Space Kinetic is currently assembling its TRL-5 prototype and aims to leverage this platform to provide the United States with a new tool for securing the space domain and catalyzing the emerging space economy. As a Manufacturing Engineer Intern, this position will assist in engineering activities that support design or process improvement for the Division. The intern will be a driving force for continuous improvement of the facility while working with all levels of the organization. Interns will be provided with training and mentorship that will translate to real-world skills and experiences. This internship is a paid position with both full and part-time employment opportunities available, with rolling start and end timeframes. Interns will support the Engineering team to help design and build prototypes for Space Kinetic’s core technology to achieve a mission of a flight demo within the next 2 years in a fast-paced startup environment.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled for a Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Electrical Engineering degree from an accredited college or university
  • Must be a recent college graduate OR graduate within the last semester of your program
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and electrical skills are required

  • Knowledge and experience with CAD and AM data preparations software (e.g. SolidWorks, Magics, ANSYS Additive Print, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in engineering activities that support design or process improvement for the Division
  • Be a driving force for continuous improvement of the facility while working with all levels of the organization
  • Make layouts and detail drawings of equipment assigned
  • Evaluate various equipment and methods and point out advantages, disadvantages and production capabilities
  • Recommend the purchase items needed to keep equipment properly maintained
  • Check on process capabilities of equipment designed to see that it is properly maintained
  • Keep up to date of all new developments in equipment or processes that could be adapted to improve manufacturing processes
  • Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities
  • Contribute and support other teams or individuals as needed
  • Support the Engineering team to help design and build prototypes for Space Kinetic’s core technology
