The Role As a Manufacturing Engineer specializing in Controls Emulation, you will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and supporting advanced manufacturing controls systems across our operations. This position operates within a centralized manufacturing engineering organization or directly within assembly/plant environments, requiring strong technical expertise, creativity, and independent judgment. You will lead emulation activities for new programs, support existing site operations, and drive the integration of modern automation technologies. Your work enables highly efficient, high‑quality production and directly influences launch readiness and manufacturing excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering; 3+ years preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, or equivalent).
  • Experience in Emulation/Simulation (emulate3D, fe.screen-sim)
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA development (FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Ignition, or similar).
  • Familiarity with electrical panel design, wiring standards, and troubleshooting.

Nice To Haves

  • Process Simulation experience
  • Experience with GM Global Common Controls Architecture.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).

Responsibilities

  • Lead emulation efforts for new program launches.
  • Stay current on emerging controls technologies—including PLCs, HMIs, networks, robotics, and vision systems—and evaluate their application within GM manufacturing environments.
  • Manage project deliverables to meet program timing milestones.
  • Present project updates and technical report-outs to senior leadership.
  • Provide troubleshooting and technical support for existing programs and plant operations.
  • Offer technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced controls engineers.
  • Design, implement, and troubleshoot electrical controls systems.
  • Develop and test advanced process technologies as part of continuous improvement and innovation initiatives.
