About The Position

The Center for African Studies at The Ohio State University seeks a Managing Editor for Research in African Literatures, a leading peer-reviewed academic journal. This role is crucial for coordinating the editorial and production processes to ensure the publication of high-quality scholarly content. The Managing Editor is responsible for overseeing four issues per year, which includes managing a total of 24 articles annually.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of journal publication from manuscript submission through final production
  • Serve as the primary liaison with authors throughout the evaluation and revision process
  • Communicate and coordinate with the publisher, typesetters, and printers during production
  • Advise on production planning and scheduling to ensure timely publication
  • Review and edit news releases and journal communications
  • Work closely with authors to produce high-quality, polished articles, including: Proofreading and copyediting
  • Ensuring adherence to journal style and citation guidelines
  • Verifying facts and accuracy of figures, dates, and references
  • Standardizing content and improving clarity, coherence, and readability
