About The Position

The Manager, Workers' Compensation is responsible for overseeing the administration of the organization's workers' compensation program. This role ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, manages claims, partners with internal and external stakeholders, and develops strategies to reduce workplace injuries and associated costs. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with a deep understanding of workers' compensation laws and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Risk Management, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in workers' compensation, with at least 4 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of workers' compensation laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Experience working with TPAs, insurance carriers, and legal counsel.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Workers' Compensation or Risk Management (e.g., CWCP, ARM) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end workers' compensation claims process, including intake, investigation, documentation, and resolution for all work-related injuries and illnesses-from incident reporting through recovery and return-to-work.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between employees, managers, insurance carriers, third-party administrators (TPAs), legal counsel, and healthcare providers, to ensure compliance with multi-state requirements.
  • Monitor medical costs, review billing for accuracy, and assist in cost-containment strategies and negotiations with providers when applicable. Develop and implement injury prevention and return-to-work programs in collaboration with Safety and HR teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local workers' compensation laws and regulations.
  • Provide training and guidance to managers and employees on workers' compensation policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for all claims and related activities in accordance with HIPAA and company recordkeeping standards.
  • Prepare and present reports to leadership on claim status, costs, and program effectiveness.
  • Participate in audits and coordinate with legal and compliance teams as needed.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve workers' compensation processes and vendor relationships.
