About The Position

The Warehouse Control System (WCS) Support Manager is responsible for leading the ongoing operational support of warehouse control systems and participating in the design, implementation and integration with automated material handling equipment (MHE), warehouse management systems (WMS), and enterprise platforms (ERP, TMS). This role serves as the primary owner of WCS platforms across one or multiple distribution centers, ensuring system stability, performance, scalability, and alignment with operational objectives. The manager acts as a key liaison between IT, operations, engineering, automation vendors, and system integrators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Supply Chain or related required or equivalent years of experience required. Equivalent years of experience is defined as one year of professional experience for each year of college requested.
  • 5–10 years of experience supporting or implementing WCS, WMS, or warehouse automation systems.
  • Hands-on experience with automated warehouse environments (e.g., conveyors, sorters, AS/RS, robotics).
  • Strong understanding of system integrations (WCS ↔ WMS ↔ PLC ↔ ERP).
  • Proven experience managing vendors, integrators, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-availability, 24/7 distribution environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with leading WCS platforms (e.g., Dematic, Daifuku, Honeywell Intelligrated, Vanderlande, SSI Schaefer, KNAPP, etc.) preferred.
  • Knowledge of PLC concepts, industrial networks, and real-time controls preferred.
  • Experience supporting large-scale distribution centers or automated fulfillment facilities preferred.
  • Project management certification (PMP, Agile, or similar) preferred.
  • Experience with Blue Yonder, Manhattan, SAP EWM, or comparable WMS platforms preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end WCS implementations, upgrades, and expansions, including requirements definition, design review, configuration, testing, cutover, and hypercare.
  • Partner with automation vendors and system integrators to ensure solutions meet functional, throughput, and availability requirements.
  • Develop a WCS roadmap aligned with automation strategy, network growth, and business objectives.
  • Coordinate WCS integration with WMS, PLCs, sortation systems, AS/RS, conveyors, robotics, and other automation technologies.
  • Own production support for WCS platforms, ensuring high availability and rapid incident resolution.
  • Establish support models, escalation paths, SLAs, and on-call coverage.
  • Lead root cause analysis for system issues impacting warehouse throughput or service levels.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve system performance.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between IT, warehouse operations, engineering, and automation vendors.
  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and performance.
  • Translate operational needs into technical requirements and actionable system changes.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a team of WCS analysts, engineers, or support specialists (as applicable).
  • Define standards for system documentation, change management, testing, and deployment.
  • Enforce IT and operational best practices, including cybersecurity, access control, and compliance.
  • Evaluate new automation technologies and WCS capabilities.
  • Support warehouse process optimization and throughput modeling initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
