About The Position

The Manager, Teaching & Learning (T&L) Operations & Hiring is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of instructors for all SEO sites. The position also includes coordinating and maintaining the operations for SEO High School Scholars, New York.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in education or a related field preferred.
  • 3–4 years of teaching experience at the middle or high school level, with a strong focus on student advising, college readiness, and/or college admissions support.
  • 1–2 years of experience managing or supporting school-based operational systems (e.g., scheduling, data tracking, student information systems).
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams (full-time and/or part-time), with a track record of driving strong outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively and respectfully with instructors, staff, and a wide range of stakeholders across disciplines—both in-person (large group and 1:1) and via email, Zoom, phone, and other virtual platforms.
  • Ability to create clear, professional, and accessible presentations and materials.
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills, including conflict resolution and the ability to partner across teams, departments, and functions on shared initiatives.
  • Excellent customer service and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Ability to apply consultative approaches to assess and support professional development needs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with tools that support teacher development and collaboration, including G-Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Groups), Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe Creative Cloud (Acrobat Pro/Nitro Pro), and cloud storage platforms (e.g., Google Drive, Box).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full-cycle hiring process for instructional staff for all SEO sites, from candidate screening to selection and offer management.
  • In collaboration with the People & Culture team, develop and manage clear, repeatable hiring processes, including standardized interview protocols, candidate scoring systems, and communication timelines to ensure an equitable and efficient selection process.
  • In collaboration with the People & Culture team and Recruitment and Admissions teams for all SEO sites, maintain a pipeline of high-quality instructor candidates through targeted recruitment strategies, designing recruitment materials and communication, networking, and partnerships with relevant organizations and institutions.
  • In collaboration with Managers of New York City, San Francisco, North Carolina, and Miami, create and maintain systems to organize candidate data to support instructor placements.
  • Design and implement a structured onboarding program in New York City for instructors that covers both instructional expectations and operational procedures.
  • Track and evaluate onboarding effectiveness through surveys, retention data, and performance metrics, using insights to refine processes
  • Partner closely with Operations and Program staff in New York City to coordinate scheduling, classroom assignments, supply distribution, and other logistical needs to ensure smooth program delivery during weekday, Saturday, and summer programming.
  • Lead, manage, and support a Teaching and Learning Associate in overseeing operational workflows for instructional staff, including attendance tracking, coverage planning, compliance measures, gradebook audits, and communication of site procedures.
  • Utilize technology and process improvements to streamline scheduling, communication, and curriculum delivery.
  • Review and approve New York City instructors’ timecard submissions
  • Manage all workflows associated with New York’s core academic program, including coordination of instructional materials, classroom setups, and compliance with organizational procedures.
  • Coordinate with relevant teams in New York City to ensure instructors have all necessary resources, technology access, and classroom assignments prior to their first day.
  • Serve as Site Lead for Weekday Afterschool programming in New York City, overseeing both instructional quality and day-to-day site operations.
  • Maintain external partnerships to support program growth and operational efficiency.
