About The Position

Organizes and implements a comprehensive program of holistic spiritual care for patients, families, and caregivers throughout the network. Leads a spiritual care team and promotes spiritual health and wellness through direct care, leadership, and education related to the spiritual dimension of care. Maintains collaborative relationships with area faith communities and faith group leaders. Provides operational leadership for all liturgical and ritual celebrations. Works in collaboration with Mission Services and Operational Leadership to deepen mission integration, formation, workplace spirituality and opportunities for renewal to further advance the mission. Manages the coordination of Spiritual Care with responsibility for results including costs, methods, and staffing. Responsible for operational performance, quality, service environment and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Theological education appropriate for board certified chaplain
  • Master's Degree Required: from an accredited university or seminary
  • Minimum of 5 years Required: experience, preferably healthcare chaplaincy experience
  • Minimum of 2 years Required: leadership experience
  • Required: 4 units of clinical pastoral education (CPE) training
  • Required: Board certified or certification eligible by National Association of Catholic Chaplains, Association for Professional Chaplains, the National Association of Jewish Chaplains or by an organization that generally follow The Common Standards of Professional Chaplaincy.
  • Endorsement/standing from chaplain's faith tradition
  • Excellent interpersonal and counseling skills, especially in crisis situations. (Required)
  • Demonstrates adaptable and flexible support of other members of the Spiritual Care Department. (Required)
  • Demonstrates ability to respectfully engage with clergy of all faith traditions. (Required)
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively support patients and caregivers with a wide range of physical, emotional and spiritual needs. (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Manages daily operations including resource management.
  • Supervises staff, monitors, and prioritizes workflow.
  • Administers all aspects of staff management and development for the Spiritual Care department to ensure adequate scheduling, staff competency, qualifications and professional growth related to excellence in spiritual care.
  • Assigns work; plans and manages priorities; monitors quality of work and staff performance.
  • Ensures quality improvement.
  • Oversees staff training, including onboarding, for department.
  • Develops and maintains Spiritual Care policies, procedures, and protocols in conformity with PeaceHealth Mission & Values, PeaceHealth's Standards of Excellence for Spiritual Care, and the Ethical & Religious Directives Catholic Health Care Services.
  • Works closely with mission or spiritual care leadership in promoting and carrying out mission integration and formation programs, activities and events.
  • Provides support, resources, and leadership for the programs, initiatives and on-going department functions and goals as assigned.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines to maintain the integration of Spiritual Care and promoting whole-person care into care planning and delivery for patients and support for caregivers.
  • Brings expertise and resources to support Mission Integration and formation, organizational culture, and spirituality in the workplace as a member of Mission Services.
  • Collaborates locally with leadership and operations to integrate ritual, prayer, and mission focused processes in response to organizational events in order to provide support to caregivers and foster leadership development.
  • Promotes and supports the appropriate inclusion of volunteers within the work of Spiritual Care.
  • Oversees the selection, training, and support of volunteers.
  • Develops collaborative relationships with area clergy, lay ministers, and ministerial associations.
  • Participates in the budget development and monitoring process.
  • Manages the coordination of Spiritual Care with responsibility for results including costs, methods, staffing, and other resources.
  • May provide oversight of services such as Music Thanatology, caregiver support initiatives, Critical Incident Stress Management, and No One Dies Alone.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
