About The Position

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. This is a full-time, on-site position located in Akron, OH or Greensburg, PA. The position of Manager, Scoping and Estimating requires a self-directed leader with a strong ability to guide and coordinate multiple teams responsible for delivering project scopes and estimates that meet accuracy and efficiency expectations. The manager oversees the creation and maintenance of scopes of work and cost estimates for substation and transmission line capital projects, supporting both transmission and distribution portfolios. The team is responsible for developing core estimates, coordinating ancillary estimates, and supplying total project costs and schedules. Additionally, the team develops and coordinates facility study reports for the PJM Generation Interconnection process, working closely with support groups within the transmission organization to provide refined scopes, cost estimates, and project schedules for generation interconnection agreements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; minimum of 10 years relevant experience required. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 15 years of direct, relevant experience will be considered.
  • Relevant experience in design engineering, project development, portfolio development, project management, and/or system operations and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, designing, and/or construction of transmission and substation projects, ensuring compliance with engineering practices, standards, budget, field practices, equipment specifications, and maintenance.
  • Ability to lead multiple teams and coordinate a large quantity of projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively under deadlines, unexpected developments, changes in project scope, budget constraints, and unforeseen problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain successful working relationships with employees, departments, and external partners.
  • Commitment to a safety culture and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Self-directed and able to work independently.
  • Ability to coach, counsel, and develop employees.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for status reports, correspondence, and information sharing.
  • Working knowledge of applicable computer programs, including Microsoft Office, EOS Navigator/Sage, AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, and PowerBI.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous management or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of OPPM, Unifier, Primavera, EcoSys, SAP, CREWS, and Cascade is a plus.
  • Professional engineering license preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing internal and external teams to develop and maintain scopes and estimates for transmission and distribution portfolios, including substation and transmission line capital projects.
  • Overseeing the creation of core estimates, coordination of ancillary estimates, and delivery of total project costs and schedules.
  • Developing and coordinating facility study reports for the PJM Generation Interconnection process.
  • Collaborating with support groups within the transmission organization to refine scopes, cost estimates, and project schedules for generation interconnection projects.
  • Assigning and coordinating workload to ensure individual projects are accurately planned and accounted for in terms of scope, schedule, and cost.
  • Supporting communication and strategic alignment across business units.
  • Reviewing project requirements and scopes for feasibility, safety, and constructability.
  • Facilitating employee growth through learning opportunities in construction, scheduling, and engineering standards.
  • Collaborating with Engineering, vendors, equipment manufacturers, and contractors.
  • Researching and implementing new technologies to automate work processes and increase efficiency.
  • Supporting and sustaining FirstEnergy as a high-performing organization by practicing and demonstrating core values and behaviors.
  • Participating in industry meetings to ensure FirstEnergy has a voice in industry direction
