About The Position

The Manager of Respiratory Therapy is responsible for the comprehensive oversight of the twenty-four hour operation of personnel providing diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care across the Medical Center. This includes planning, scheduling, coordinating, directing, and evaluating activities to ensure adequate staff coverage for fluctuating patient census and workload. The role ensures high-quality services and care align with Medical Center and regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities also involve assisting in the development, implementation, and administration of new patient care services to meet fiscal year business plans. The manager effectively manages financial, capital, and human resources within the respiratory care section by establishing, implementing, and monitoring quality and productivity standards, and taking corrective action when necessary. They are also tasked with developing, implementing, and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures for compliance with Medical Center and third-party requirements, coordinating in-house educational in-services, and new employee orientation programs. The manager must demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to provide patient care appropriate to the ages of the patients served.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an approved institution.
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the State of Illinois.
  • Current National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registered Respiratory Therapy credential if credentialed after July 2002.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
  • Professional level of knowledge of practice and theory.

  • Master’s Degree in Healthcare, Business or related field
  • Adult Critical Care Specialty credential
  • Registered Pulmonary Function Technician credential
  • Asthma Educator- Certified credentials
  • Neonatal Pediatric Specialty credential from the NBRC preferred for all other locations.
  • Analytical skills necessary to organize and direct the work of others, develop, implement and administer policies, procedures, budgets and respiratory therapy practices.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, scheduling, coordinating, directing and evaluating the twenty-four hour operation of the activities of personnel engaged in providing diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care throughout the Medical Center.
  • Ensuring adequate staff coverage for a fluctuating patient census/workload throughout the department.
  • Ensuring the provision of high quality services and care in accordance with Medical Center and regulatory requirements.
  • Assisting in the development of, implementing and administering new patient care services in order to achieve fiscal year business plans.
  • Effectively managing financial, capital and human resources of respiratory care section by establishing, implementing and monitoring quality and productivity standards.
  • Implementing corrective action as necessary.
  • Developing, implementing and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures in order to ensure compliance with Medical Center and third-party requirements.
  • Coordinating in-house educational in-services and new employee orientation programs.
  • Demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
