About The Position

MTC is proud to operate the Joliet Job Corps Center in Joliet, IL, where staff provide quality services to local youth. The Manager, Residential Living directly supervises dorm coordinators and recreation supervisor. This role is responsible for the management of campus security, recreation, and residential living, which includes ensuring a safe and homelike atmosphere, effective dormitory management and maintenance, social skills training, fostering a positive dorm culture, and overseeing student dorm government and peer court systems. The position requires compliance with government and management directives and a dedication to improving people’s lives.

Requirements

  • Post secondary degree and four years experience working with youth and young adults
  • Two of which must be in a supervisory capacity
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and computer proficiency required
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and manage the administrative and programmatic activities of the residential living and recreation department
  • Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance and implement department and personnel changes as approved by center director and coordinated with the manager, human resources prior to implementation
  • Develop and implement new and revised policies and procedures affecting residential living and recreation; coordinate with other departments to promote center objectives
  • Regularly assess and audit department for contractual compliance and quality of services to students; prepare audit and assessment reports
  • Promote interaction between staff and students
  • Establish, implement and supervise student management procedures to maximize student living standards, coordinate student participation
  • Provide staff training, both group and individual, in supervision skills, Career Success Standards (CSS), communication and staff and student interaction
  • Develop and monitor shift schedules for round the clock dormitory coverage; control documentation and maintenance of records
  • Coordinate with other center staff concerning safety and security matters
  • Coordinate searches of students rooms and belongings. Ensure proper protocols are followed
  • Regularly inspect facility; maintain quality standards
  • Inspect dormitories weekly; maintain required quality standards; coordinate with facility maintenance to resolve facility issues
  • Provide support and guidance to staff in dealing with behavior of students and resolving individual or group situations
  • Ensure records for the shift and dormitories are maintained up to date. Monitor timeliness and quality of student case note entries in CIS
  • Oversee operation of all recreational facilities and programs
  • Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers
  • Participate in student employability programs and activities
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy
  • Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions
  • Maintain accountability of staff, students and property; adhere to safety practices.
