About The Position

Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC) is the largest employer, largest healthcare provider and the only remaining non-profit hospital in the Mohave County of Northwestern Arizona. We are a 235-bed, Level 4 trauma, multi-campus healthcare system. Our system includes over 270 physicians/allied health professionals and 1,900 employees and provides a full range of medical services ranging from essential primary care to complex surgery. Key clinical services include cardiology & cardiac rehab, oncology, emergency care, GI, general surgery, neurology, OB/GYN, orthopedics, physical & occupational therapy, pain management, thoracic surgery, urology, wound care, home health, and hospice care. KRMC was recently named a 4-star hospital by CMS, is the only hospital in Arizona to receive the Governor’s “Arizona Innovation Award” for proactive efforts to enhance healthcare in a rural community and has the distinction of being the state’s first rural teaching hospital offering physician residencies in family medicine and emergency medicine. Kingman, AZ is located along Historic Route 66, just 90 minutes south of Las Vegas and two hours North of Phoenix in the beautiful high desert of Mohave County. Our tranquil mid-sized community is relatively low stress; traffic is minimal and average commute times to work are under fifteen minutes. Kingman’s higher elevation keeps the sweltering desert summer temperatures away from the extremes (on average 10-15 degrees cooler than Phoenix and Las Vegas) with mild winter temperatures seeing an occasional dusting of snow. Located near the Colorado River that forms the western boundary of Mohave County with an estimated 1,000 miles of freshwater shoreline including Lake Havasu, Lake Mohave, and Lake Mead. Our climate is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts especially boating, kayaking, hiking, golf, and off-road adventures! All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision of providing the region’s best clinical care and patient service through an environment that fosters respect for others and pride in performance. This position oversees all functions of the credit/collection, Insurance Collectors, AHCCCS and department staff. The Manager coordinates activities and schedules work assignments to meet the rigid collection and accounts receivable guidelines. This position operates within the confines of federal and state collection laws and third-party payer requirements with respect to health coverage and reimbursement. The Manager monitors communications with patients regarding resolution of patient balances while safeguarding the public image of KHI.

Requirements

  • Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Required Experience: Five (5) years’ experience in Patient Accounting and one (1) year supervisory experience
  • Skills and Knowledge: Manages staff through positive reinforcement that motivates and instills confidence; typing and computer CRT experience; proficient with Microsoft Office; knowledge in pre-billing or billing; knowledge of accounting principles; knowledge and skilled in office procedures; verbal and numerical intelligence; ability to interact with the public; ability to motivate people and utilize resources in an organized manner.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain interdepartmental communications within KHI and work closely with the Billing Manager in respect to issues that arise effecting the billing staff
  • Works toward reduction of A/R days through audit processes and staff in-services/training
  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and controls the systems by which patients services and demographic account information is developed and maintained; monitors and evaluates, the quality of the department and takes appropriate action based on the findings
  • Develops and revises job descriptions for all department positions; interviews, selects and hires new or replacement staff to fill approved positions
  • Effectively utilizes employee improvement and corrective action methods when necessary; schedules work hours and assignments for employees to meet the needs of the Department’s customers; administers hospital and department policies and procedures; completes employee appraisals
  • Provides opportunities for self and staff development through orientation, education, and training; maintains professional qualifications and remains abreast of current developments and trends in collections and account resolution processes including billing
  • Provides/coordinates community and education programs as needed; responds to physician requests and the Medical Staff personnel
  • Assesses current volumes, and projects/plans for future service needs; establishes operational goals and objectives; evaluates achievements at least annually
  • Randomly audit patients accounts, cash receipts and deposits using sampling techniques to ensure accuracy; coaches employees for improvement where necessary based on predetermined parameters; ensures that insurance EOBs are processed as required and financial counseling is effective allowing representatives to collect per the payment arrangements or offer financial assistance as needed.
