This position supports our workers' compensation line of business, Eastern Alliance, and is ideally based in Pennsylvania. We can support a hybrid or remote work arrangement. Territory oversight is our East Region, which includes Mid-Atlantic and New England areas. The primary responsibility of the Manager of Regional Risk Management is to perform all of the necessary duties to profitably and effectively manage the Risk Management operations at the regional level. This position is responsible for providing supervisory functions for the Risk Management team as well as leading the unit to meet all financial and operational goals while adhering to the Mission statement, Core Values and Philosophies for the Company and Risk Management department. The position also involves evaluating loss potential for current and prospective Workers’ Compensation insurance customers with respect to workplace Safety and Health as needed and to support the promotion and development of the Risk Management Department. The position is responsible for recommending cost-effective, results-oriented consultative services to acquire and retain a positive customer base. The position works closely and develops relationships with clients, agents, claims, underwriting, and all other departments within Eastern Alliance Insurance Group, to retain a diverse and profitable book of business in support of our revenue and profitability objectives and overall business plan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in occupational safety or related field.
  • Eight years of progressive occupational safety and health experience, five of which with a focus in workers’ compensation.
  • Prior supervisory/management and leadership experience that includes transferrable knowledge and skills required, preferably in the insurance industry.
  • Must meet any state provider qualifications for assigned territories.
  • Ability to attend insurance and industry/business functions to promote and present a positive image of the Company.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications including Word and Excel.
  • Analytical ability, in order to analyze and interpret information; and make profitable decisions about risks.
  • Attention to detail in processing information, establishing priorities, and expense management.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, including formulating logical and objective conclusions.
  • Ability to assess the urgency and importance of a situation and take appropriate action.
  • Requires the exposure to various manufacturing, industry and business environments where certain requirements regarding the use of personal protective equipment may be necessary; the ability to inspect various types of risks and independently evaluate according to company standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally; verbally, in writing, through virtual and in-person presentations with various constituencies and at all levels in and outside of the organization, including agency partners, outside customers and clients.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development to ensure we are providing our customers with competent and relevant consulting advice.
  • Self-driven to accept new responsibilities, and work in collaboration or independently to help develop solutions to identified operational needs in support of our overall mission.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs and ladders; walk long distances over uneven terrain, to reach remote areas during visits to all types of operations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, the ability to drive long distances to reach client/agency sites and have an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Execute supervisory functions of the Regional Risk Management Unit, providing leadership, technical guidance and direction (team members and strategic partners) on risk management procedures, Company policies and standards. Directly oversees the daily operations of Regional Risk Management team; provides guidance, support and growth opportunities for staff; establishes performance and development objectives departmentally for direct reports; provides regular feedback and conducts annual performance evaluations; identifies staff developmental plans and opportunities for career pathing and growth. Participates in interviewing and hiring of new staff and vendor partners; conducts and facilitates orientation for staff members; coordinates formal training programs; assigns staff to special projects and oversees workflow and workload of staff. Ensures adherence to company philosophy and practices through executing the quality assurance process. Stays abreast of emerging issues and communicates to peers and staff.
  • Develops and manages the regional expense budget. Oversees workflow, workload of staff, team assignments and resource allocation to ensure desired effectiveness and efficiency. Oversees and coordinates administrative and contractual relationships with all vendor partners to ensure services delivered meet operational objectives and expectations.
  • Communicates and collaborates directly with the regional management team and other leaders within Risk Management regarding the internal/external delivery of services. Communicates and collaborates directly with our company-wide Risk Management function; assist with the drafting, execution and staff communication of Strategic Plan and Operational Objectives. Ensures departmental execution of Company’s Risk Management Objectives and Strategies through our agency partners and customers.
  • Manage return-to-wellness initiatives by working collaboratively with agents, clients, claims, and underwriters to actively promote our ecovery® strategies; and ensure proper return to work guidelines and procedures are established, followed and achieved. Provide coaching and mentoring to fellow risk management consultants with their RTW challenges.
  • Develop and execute service plans to reduce policyholder loss exposure, improve Company profitability and aid in client retention by thoroughly evaluating a client’s facilities and needs; cultivate and develop high quality company-client working relationships by visiting and communicating with clients and agents on a regular and timely basis as necessitated by business needs and company guidelines.
  • Prescreen selected new business submissions, including site visits and inspections; communicate via verbal and written processes to Underwriting to aid in risk selection in a thorough, accurate and timely manner. Define and communicate client needs and expectations through the prescreen process.
  • Independently prioritize, execute and document risk management activities according to Company standards for an assigned book of business including review file and loss information, conduct hazard assessment surveys, communicate with team, organize service calls, prospect surveys, and agency visits. Independently manage the book of business and assigned programs by proactively monitoring results, communicating and developing working relationship with underwriting, claims, finance, and others as necessary. This can include work with Traditional, Inova® and Specialty Risk accounts according to established pre-screen and servicing guidelines. Independently support Risk Management, UW and Claims efforts in developing materials for, and presenting at, Stewardship and Point of Sale meetings.
  • Facilitates and creates a team environment within the unit and with other departments; runs regular unit meetings, actively participates in internal and external meetings such as monthly team account reviews, Inova® meetings and risk management leadership meetings.
  • Completes annual state reports for the Region, facilitates regulatory agency audits, and ensures that the Company services meet any applicable state requirements within the region.
  • Identifies and coordinates external presentations that provide the Company with positive public relations.
