About The Position

This is not a desk-only role, and it is not a “guard post” position. We are looking for someone who has lived the work—former military (including special operations), former SWAT, or a veteran law enforcement professional—and who still wants to be in the arena: visible, engaged, training others, and building a campus safety program that is disciplined, professional, and practical. The ideal candidate is a leader who can write policy, build systems, and recruit a team—without wanting to become a full-time administrator. You will handle the administrative responsibilities because they matter, but your day-to-day presence will be on campus: proactively reducing risk, setting standards, training staff, and serving as the on-site security lead. This role is responsible for being a visible deterrent, owning the safety plan and intruder-response plan, coordinating training (including concealed-carry related training where appropriate and lawful), and leading the first on-campus response until emergency responders arrive. In this role, success looks like: A campus where students, staff, customers and families feel calm and confident because safety is organized, visible, and practiced, but without being oppressive. Clear procedures that people actually follow because they are simple, trained, and enforced consistently. A security program that is professional and built around prevention, training, and readiness.

Requirements

  • Significant professional experience in law enforcement, military, or protective services, with strong decision-making under pressure.
  • Proven leadership ability: the judgment and presence to lead people, build trust, and set standards.
  • Ability to write and implement policies and procedures that are clear, realistic, and trainable.
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, steady demeanor.
  • Ability to meet applicable Tennessee requirements for armed protective services work on a campus environment (including licensing/training requirements or qualifying exemptions as applicable).
  • This is an active, on-campus role requiring extended periods of standing, walking, and continuous movement throughout indoor and outdoor campus environments.
  • Ability to move quickly and decisively, including stair climbing and rapid response to emergent situations as needed.
  • Must pass background and reference checks appropriate for a youth environment.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to patrol campus on foot and by vehicle.
  • Ability to work fully on-site and during select evenings/weekends for events and high-traffic campus days.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or running safety programs (campus, school, large facility, or public-facing environment).
  • Former SWAT / tactical team, former military special operations, or a long, active career in law enforcement with operational leadership experience.
  • Firearms instruction credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a consistent, professional, highly visible presence across the Farm and Forge campus.
  • Conduct daily patrols, facility checks, and situational-awareness monitoring of entry points, parking areas, and campus activity.
  • Develop and maintain all campus safety plans, intruder-response plans, and emergency procedures.
  • Create practical post orders and clear standards for day-to-day operations and event coverage.
  • Run drills and readiness training (age-appropriate and role-appropriate), and build strong staff habits and response confidence.
  • Train staff in situational awareness, de-escalation, visitor management, and emergency response expectations.
  • Certified to provide or coordinate lawful concealed-carry related training.
  • Build a culture where safety is everyone’s responsibility in a way that aligns with Farm and Forge’s mission and values.
  • Serve as the on-site security lead in the event of a critical incident, coordinating immediate protective actions and communications.
  • Interface with local law enforcement, fire/EMS, and emergency responders, ensuring a smooth handoff and clear information flow.
  • Conduct after-action reviews and continuously improve plans and training.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and lead additional security staff as needed.
  • Establish professional expectations and accountability—calm demeanor, sharp judgment, and high standards.
  • Oversee access control, visitor check-in procedures, and perimeter security processes.
  • Identify weak points and implement practical improvements (process, technology, or staffing).
