About The Position

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Manager of Business Analytics in the Client Value and Practice Management department, reporting to the Chief Practice and Revenue Officer. The role can reside in the New York or Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and will play a pivotal role in fostering effective communication, standardizing analytics practices, and integrating quantitative insights to inform strategic business decisions. The Manager collaborates with internal departments and external vendors to design, implement, and administer financial dashboards and reports that are firm leadership, attorney, and client-facing. Additionally, the Manager actively contributes to strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with firm goals. The role requires a blend of technical proficiency, strategic thinking, and collaborative skills to elevate the firm's analytical capabilities and quantitative intelligence, ultimately steering data-supported decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5-10 years in client service-oriented functions, preferably with a business intelligence, business analyst, financial analyst, or similar background.
  • Experience with SQL and/or Alteryx preferred.
  • Proficient in general office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) with a quick learning ability for additional systems.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles, economic drivers, and business operations within a legal or professional services environment.
  • Comfort in using specialized data analytics software and tools. (SQL, Alteryx, or similar)
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for conveying complex analytical findings to diverse stakeholders.
  • Sharp attention to detail and accuracy in data interpretation and reporting.
  • Experience collaborating cross-departmentally and with external vendors.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and evolving business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the firm's business and financial landscape, providing strategic insights to firm and practice group leadership.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to address strategic priorities, employing advanced analytics to meet diverse practice-specific needs.
  • Lead the development, design, and production of scalable ad-hoc and standardized performance reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
  • Leverage technology platforms to deliver impactful insights efficiently.
  • Communicate complex financial and operational data to stakeholders, spot trends, and share insights that improve overall performance.
  • Proactively track, analyze, and synthesize data from internal and external sources to support knowledge management, inform strategic decisions, and reduce reliance on reactionary analysis.
  • Lead data analysis projects, including reporting, visualizations, and ad-hoc research, delivering compelling insights that drive actionable business decisions.
  • Collaborate with Client Value to identify analytic needs within practice groups and client bases, propose value-add opportunities, and support the development of corresponding analytics.
  • Design and implement new processes, reports, dashboards, and other analytic frameworks to enhance usability and adoption across the firm.
  • Stay current on data automation, intelligence tools, systems, vendors, and market advancements to continuously improve the firm’s analytics capabilities.
  • Lead the development, design, and production of scalable ad-hoc and standardized performance reports at client/matter levels, enhancing clarity and transparency for internal and client-facing audiences.
  • Leverage technology platforms and improve templates to enable effective decision-making
  • Lead the implementation of matter management and process improvement methodologies, concepts, and processes across the firm.
  • Create consistent project management tools, including matter work plans, scoping aids, and budgeting templates/models, and educate attorneys on their benefits and effective use.
  • Write high-level summaries of trends, observations, and outliers for Partners and other stakeholders, translating complex data into actionable insights.
  • Regularly interact with attorneys to socialize matter management and legal project management principles, offering guidance to improve matter oversight.
  • Serve as a resource for firm partners and the Client Value team by managing designated client relationships, providing credible analysis on client-related budgeting and reporting.
  • Support the Chief Practice and Revenue Officer with data-mining and analytics requests for pricing, legal project management, and client development initiatives.
  • Lead the review, implementation, and administration of software, technology platforms, and dashboards, ensuring seamless integration and usability.
  • Support the Chief Practice and Revenue Officer in creating and executing initiatives, process improvement techniques, and systems/tools that drive strategic revenue growth, providing timely analysis to aid group efforts.
  • Collaborate on and lead special projects as assigned, demonstrating leadership and strategic thinking
  • Train attorneys and business services staff on financial dashboards, responding to requests for guidance and support.
  • Lead training and mentorship for junior staff, including direct reports, analysts, and interns on the Client Value team.
  • Impart expertise in data analytics, project management, and professional interactions, fostering a collaborative learning environment and providing ongoing feedback to enhance skills and professional development.
