About The Position

The Medical Staff Office is the tactical department that supports medical staff organization activities. The Manager, Medical Staff Services (MMSS) provides leadership, management and operational oversight of Medical Staff Organization (MSO) support services for Danbury Hospital (DH). The MMSS works collaboratively with the President of the MSO, the Medical Executive Committee (MEC), and additional medical Staff Leaders (appointed, elected, volunteer and paid, such as Department Chairs, Committee Chairs, etc.) and the Medical Staff leadership to plan, organize, direct and coordinate the programs and activities of the MSO to ensure that: (1) strategies of the MSO are supported and attained, (2) the goals and plans are realized, and (3) there is adherence to the requirements of regulatory and accreditation bodies that are relevant to the organized medical staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5 to 7 years management experience in a healthcare environment.

  • In addition, the ideal candidate should possess comprehensive expertise and knowledge of medical staff organization management, including regulatory and accreditation requirements, credentialing, privileging, peer review, etc. If a candidate is found that does not have this expertise, the candidate will have to be mentored for a period of time by an outside resource.

Responsibilities

  • Takes initiative in planning and formulating policies, procedures, programs, strategies, and plans for approval of the MEC to further the objective and requirements of the Medical Staff Organization
  • Coordinates and maintains programs
  • Carries out specific tasks assigned by the MEC, President of the Medical Staff, or the Medical Staff leadership.
  • Identifies, assesses, and informs the MEC of internal and external issues that affect the programs and activities of the MSO, including regulatory and accreditation issues. Assures that the MEC is kept fully informed in a timely fashion on all important factors that influence positive outcomes or create barrier to positive outcomes.
  • Develops and implements strategies for regular, effective communication with MSO members regarding Danbury Hospital and plans, goals, and activities of the MSO.
  • Oversees development of practitioner information systems and coordination of information flow with other departments and the medical and allied health staffs
  • Maintains a high degree of accuracy and integrity in managing data.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the MEC committee activities (agenda development, documentation and follow up) including communication to appropriate membership and stakeholders of MEC activities.
  • Provides the necessary resources and support to committee chairs to enable them to properly perform their duties Facilitates communication between and among committees, staff, membership and leadership of the MSO.
  • Assists with design, development, implementation, support and oversight of MSO activities regarding regulatory and accreditation requirements
  • Works with the MEC, the Credentials Committee and Department Chairs on creation and/or revision of privileging forms, criteria, credentialing standards and data that provide information about practitioner performance.
  • Coordinates and provides resources (in cooperation with legal counsel) for the conduct of medical Staff investigations, disciplinary actions, judicial reviews and appeals to the Board to ensure compliance with substantive and procedural due process requirements. Guides the Medical Staff, in concert with legal counsel, through disciplinary processes and legal proceedings involving Medical Staff issues.
  • Collaborates effectively with other members of the Quality and Organizational Performance team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
