PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Manager, Mechanical is responsible for ensuring all mechanical activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulatory, maintenance, and company standards. This role provides strong leadership to drive performance across safety, service reliability, productivity, and financial outcomes. The ideal candidate champions a safety-first culture, communicates with clarity and influence, and promotes a high level of accountability and continuous improvement within the team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Minimum 2 years of working knowledge in railway operations (road, yard, car, mechanical) in a leadership role
  • Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends holidays and on call
  • Ability to interact efficiently and positively with governmental and stakeholders
  • Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues
  • Strong self-motivation and ability to make decisions within limits of authority

Responsibilities

  • Develops, monitors, and communicates key performance indicators to ensure all direct and indirect reports better understand the train service business as well as the role they play
  • Accountable for the application and implementation of accident prevention initiatives and ensures compliance with company safety and accident prevention policies and procedures, regulations and general safety principles, ensuring that subordinates carry out the safety framework activities in the local safety plan
  • Accountable for communicating and interacting regularly with field operations to ensure train services is meeting the expectations of internal and external customers
  • Maintains communication and relationships with local union officials, including monitoring gain sharing activities as applicable
  • Accountable for implementation of lean continuous improvement recommendations to improve productivity and effectiveness of the operation. Support Lean Philosophy and Principals
  • Ensures locomotive and car bad order repairs, cycle time and key metrics are met
  • Accountable for leading mechanical forces at train incidents within their jurisdiction, safely handle and efficiently restore service with minimum loss and damage to equipment and assist Field Operations/Engineering partners
