About The Position

Is responsible for safe uphill and downhill transportation of all guests via Vail's chair lift infrastructure. Supervisors Team Leads, Leads, and lift operators in assigned locations are responsible for daily supervision. Develop and implement programs for department safety, service, and training. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees. Performance will be evaluated using the company's leadership competencies and measures that rate the success of the department's goals.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent, some college preferred.
  • Experience managing large teams, Experience working in the ski industry.
  • 3 years in a Mountain Operations supervisory or managerial role.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams etc.
  • Strong English communication skills including verbal & written with the ability to handle complex guest interactions on and off the ski slopes.
  • Previous guest service experience.
  • Positive, solutions-oriented leadership. Ability to make responsible decisions at critical times.
  • Ability to navigate the mountain on skis or snowboard

Responsibilities

  • Daily oversight of operations, scheduling and monitoring daily operations of all lifts. Ensuring correct staffing levels are maintained to cover all aspects of safety and guest service while remaining within budget limits. Inventory and purchase supplies as needed, maintaining budget.
  • Encourage a caring safety culture within the department to achieve the goal of zero work-related injury.
  • Continuously train, counsel, and mentor returning and new staff with a higher focus on leadership within the team. Assist in coordination and participate in the process to interview, hire, and train new employees in all aspects of daily lift operations. Motivate, reward, and encourage all employees.
  • Maintain the team's level of professionalism and standard of excellence according to our guest service expectations.
  • Understand Vail Policies and Procedures. Implement and maintain these ensuring the best interests of the company as a whole are upheld. Counsel and discipline employees up to and including termination for violations of these policies.
  • Perform audits of our maze, lift, load and unload areas to ensure daily presentation is meeting or exceeding expectations.
  • Understand and implement all requirements of ANSI, CPTSB and OSHA regulations. Build a professional working relationship with representatives of these agencies.
  • Maintain and document all aspects of Safety, Guest Service, and Operations training.
  • Timely communications with regard to daily lift operating schedules to allow good communication to all business partners that may need to adjust.
  • Represent the Lift Operations Department at the Management level by active participation in all relevant meetings. Conduct self in a manner that sets an example for Lift Employees and other company employees in all professional and moral responsibilities while at work.
  • During summer operations, work supervising on mountain projects in areas of construction, underground utility work, and environmental impact projects. Will assist or lead daily supervision of summer Lift Operations of Eagle Bahn and Gondola 1 Lifts. Will also coordinate lift operations assistance with Director of Lift Maintenance post-summer operations.
  • Assist in the preparation and effective implementation of departmental budgets for labor and expenses.
  • Proper documentation of daily operations is upheld and accurate. This is a crucial part of the operations to assist with our abilities in tracking possible operational issues as displayed within the weekly Lift Maintenance report.
  • Other duties as assigned
