Labcorp is seeking a Manager, Lab Equipment and Automation Support Engineering to join its Invitae genetics lab in San Francisco, CA Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm Address: 1400 16th Street, San Francisco, CA 94103

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree
  • 3 years or more experience in a high complexity lab environment as an operator, lab technician, lab assistant, lab automation support engineer, or lab equipment support role
  • 3 years or more experience in equipment support
  • Effective troubleshooting skills to address issues while minimizing downtime
  • Experience with corrective action plans (CAPs): root cause analysis (RCA), corrective actions and effectiveness checks
  • Well-versed in industry standard laboratory equipment hardware and software used in high throughput molecular biology laboratories, including but not limited to: Custom integrated workcells Liquid handling (Hamilton STAR/STARlet/Vantage, Agilent Bravo, Dynamic Devices Lynx) Scheduling software (Overlord, GBG) Ancillary equipment (centrifuges, cold storage, etc.)
  • Experience in an ISO 13485/15189, GMP, GLP and/or a CLIA/CAP environment
  • Strong organizational skills with an eye for quality and operational excellence in a high throughput and regulated production environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with internal stakeholders and external collaborators
  • Functional knowledge in process documentation and data analysis
  • Troubleshooting skills, quality mindset, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Desire to continually learn and apply their technical knowledge through technical improvements of existing processes, systems, data capture and analysis, and training

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Life Sciences
  • 2 years or more experience managing and leading a technical team or technical project
  • 2 years or more Field Service Engineering experience for relevant manufacturers such as Agilent, Hamilton, Dynamic Devices, Tecan, Illumina, Unchained Labs
  • 2 years or more experience with automated Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows, including sample prep, extraction, quant/norm/pool, library prep, hyb/target capture, sequencing
  • 2 years or more experience with basic programming and following programming logic and understanding pseudo-coding
  • 2 years or more experience qualifying and deploying laboratory equipment in a production environment
  • 2 years or more experience with conducting causal analysis and implementing corrective actions plans
  • 2 years or more experience developing and monitoring equipment operational metrics

Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, mentor and support a team of Production Support Engineers that provide troubleshooting support for all hardware and software in a high automated diagnostics molecular laboratory
  • Drive continuous process improvement programs including management of assets, in line production line metrics; up time, down time, utilization - volumes/capacity.
  • Oversee hiring, coaching, and mentoring of staff
  • Maintain oversight for quality of work performed and appropriate documentation
  • Ensure appropriate hand-off communication and work completion between shifts
  • Ensure all standard operating procedures (SOPs) are current and revised when necessary
  • Support troubleshooting of down systems when an immediate resolution is not available and utilize escalation pathways to expedite securing of resources as needed
  • Ensure all production line support operations are conducted in a timely manner with the meeting quality standards; i.e., laboratory equipment maintenance and first tier software and hardware support
  • Manage team schedules to ensure sufficient staffing
  • Communicate to the Clinical Production Laboratory team the status of production line equipment and any other essential or pertinent information
  • Aid in the transfer of new technologies or changes to existing technologies into the production
  • Ensure all training and competencies are completed on time for all staff
  • Monitor and review with the staff, key performance indicators/dashboards and assess for continuous improvement.
