About The Position

The Manager, IT Applications - EPIC is responsible for all aspects of the OpTime/Anesthesia, Cupid and Radiant applications and systems supported in the assigned area, including data quality, maintenance and end-user support. Responsible for effectively allocating resources, prioritizing workload, monitoring system and staff performance, and providing expertise on applications related matters. The Manager, IT Applications also is responsible for understanding the specific needs and interests of the business unit/field and how they relate to their applications portfolio, while ensuring compliance with all Hoag Hospital Information Technologies (IT) policies and procedures. Has overall responsibility for execution of one, or more, complex programs that each may consist of multiple projects. The execution would include program / project strategies, supporting business cases, project plans (Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)), reporting, financial control, and all appropriate project documents and Gate Review materials required under Hoag’s Project Management Methodology (PMM) for a variety of projects including, but not limited to, new application deployments (Commercial, Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and custom), process improvement, application and technical upgrades, feature/function enhancements and technical infrastructure enhancements. Maintains professional knowledge of current trends and developments in the Information Technologies (IT) and healthcare field. In addition, the Manager, IT Applications - EPIC is also responsible for overseeing ongoing support activities to maintain Hoag’s Epic instance. The Manager IT Applications - EPIC oversees upgrades, enhancements, and ongoing maintenance for assigned application areas: OpTime Anesthesia Cupid Radiant A description of the Specific EPIC Modules is located at the end of this document. The Manager provides an additional level of coordination and communication in their assigned team. The Manager as assigned, coordinates the technical aspects of the implementation, including hardware, processes and decisions, and the project plan. The Manager participates in project scope and strategic direction discussions. This role requires strong organization and project management and has a technical background with a general understanding of the technical infrastructure and staff, including servers, storage, network, and desktop support teams.

Requirements

  • 8 - 10 plus years in clinical experience (hospital or ambulatory)
  • Experience leading the support of EPIC in a hospital environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Clinical Program (e.g., BSN/RN, Pharm.D., M.D. or D.O or Respiratory Therapy) or equivalent experience with proven knowledge and experience with computer applications/systems utilized in a healthcare organization
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in clinical information systems implementation, support or as a department subject matter expert
  • Experience working with physicians and other clinical practitioners
  • Experience in designing and executing needs assessments
  • Project management and/or project team leadership
  • Change management and process improvement leadership
  • Experience in healthcare quality initiatives and regulatory organizations (e.g. The Joint Commission, CMS, State Departments of health)
  • Current CA driver’s license required for local travel

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or certification in clinical informatics, or Pharm.D. degree, clinical experience in area assigned, and or prior leadership experience preferred
  • Expert experience with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Project preferred
  • EPIC certification in a least one EPIC application
  • ANCC Nursing Informatics Board Certification
