POSITION OVERVIEW: The HR Operations Manager owns the day-to-day execution and continuous improvement of HR Operations, including benefits administration, multi-state leaves of absence, HRIS (Paylocity) ownership, and partnership with Payroll. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and scalable HR operations and serves as the primary operational counterpart to Payroll. This role is responsible not only for day-to-day operational oversight, but also for driving automation, building scalable processes, and reducing manual work across HR Operations. The ideal candidate brings strong technical and process-design capabilities and is comfortable evaluating workflows, leveraging systems, and implementing improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency, and scalability. The HR Operations Manager provides oversight, approvals, and escalation support for HR operations work, manages or oversees administrative execution, and maintains flexibility to provide hands-on support during peak periods. This role reports to the VP of People & Culture.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of progressive HR Operations experience, including ownership of complex operational processes.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing scalable, automated HR operations workflows.
  • Strong systems mindset with the ability to translate operational requirements into HRIS configuration and process improvements.
  • Hands-on experience with benefits administration and leaves of absence in a multi-state environment; California expertise strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms; Paylocity experience strongly preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong data fluency; comfort working with large data sets to identify trends and drive improvements.
  • Experience partnering closely with Payroll to ensure accuracy, controls, and efficiency.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills; able to operate independently while collaborating cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

  • Own HR Operations end-to-end, including benefits, HRIS, onboarding/offboarding, leaves of absence, payroll inputs, and HR compliance.
  • Establish and maintain processes, controls, approval frameworks, and documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and audit readiness.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex operational, compliance, and employee-related issues.
  • Design and implement scalable HR operations processes, reducing reliance on manual work and ad hoc workflows.
  • Drive automation and optimization through HRIS configuration, workflows, integrations, templates, and SOPs.
  • Partner cross-functionally (Payroll, IT, People & Culture) to streamline processes, improve data flow, and strengthen controls.
  • Own HR inputs into payroll and partner closely with the Payroll Manager to ensure accurate, timely implementation and continuous improvement of HR–Payroll workflows.
  • Own benefits administration and open enrollment across a multi-state workforce, ensuring compliant, scalable, and employee-friendly processes.
  • Oversee leaves of absence administration end-to-end, coordinating with Payroll, vendors, and HRIS to ensure accurate pay treatment, recordkeeping, and compliance.
  • Serve as primary owner of Paylocity, including configuration, optimization, reporting, and vendor coordination.
  • Design and maintain scalable workflows, self-service functionality, dashboards, and automated reporting.
  • Conduct regular data integrity audits and use data insights to drive operational improvements.
  • Oversee HR Operations execution, setting priorities, reviewing work, and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant delivery.
  • Establish standards, documentation, and training materials to support consistent execution and effective handoffs.
