About The Position

McGuireWoods LLP is hiring a Manager, Financial Analysis in the Richmond, VA office. Under direction of the Director, Pricing & Analysis, this role will manage the creation and reporting of financial analysis to various levels of firm leadership for decision making support. This role is responsible for ensuring quality control over the data and guidance before it is distributed, and manages a team of approximately four to six senior financial analysts. Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business and a minimum of six years of experience, preferably in a professional services environment with demonstrated leadership abilities and professional demeanor.
  • Knowledge and experience in planning, budgeting and operational management in a large, diverse organization, preferably in a service environment.
  • Leadership, management skills and approach compatible with a matrix-reporting environment requiring significant team-building and collaborative effort.
  • Proven ability to communicate and present complex ideas and concepts across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to establish procedures which will ensure timely delivery of information.
  • Ability to build a team committed to providing quality service to internal and external clients.
  • Confidential handling of sensitive information required.
  • Discretion, sound judgment, tact and poise.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills required along with proficiency in PowerBI.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with patience, diplomacy and a high stress tolerance.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing conditions.

  • Experience programming with SQL or Python a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provides financial and administrative guidance and support to practice leaders.
  • Identifies and plans for the changing needs of the practice groups and takes the lead in analyses to ensure the practice groups have relevant information to achieve strategic goals.
  • Identifies performance trends and analyzes financial results to provide advice to practice leaders.
  • Prepares financial analyses to assist in assessment of measuring the payback on business development, lateral hires and other business initiatives and strategies.
  • Assists in evaluating the profitability of client work performed.
  • Collaborates with practice leaders and assists in the development and implementation of strategies/initiatives to achieve objectives.
  • Provides financial analysis and support for practice group retreats.
  • Participates in practice group meetings and financial reviews with practice leaders and firm senior management.
  • Recommends financially driven salary and bonus criteria for attorneys based on productivity and client management analyses.
  • Performs ad-hoc analysis to include, but not limited to: Industry benchmarking surveys, professional liability insurance, and pro-forma analysis.
  • Directs the work of approximately four to six full time equivalent employees.
  • Exercises authority or particular weight is given to the recommendation/suggestion of hire, termination, advancement, promotion or other status change regarding those employees.
  • Supervision includes, but is not limited to, interviewing, selecting and training employees, setting and adjusting pay and work hours, preparing and conducting performance appraisals, coaching and counseling and planning/apportioning work among employees.
  • Maintains a strong client focus and maintains/develops relationships with internal clients and team members.
  • Commits to developing knowledge.
  • Uses technology to continually learn, share knowledge with team members and enhance service delivery.
  • Protects confidential client and Firm information.
  • Brings potential process improvement opportunities to the team's attention.
  • Collaborates with team members to develop and present ideas that bring value to internal clients.
  • Maintains open communication with manager and team members.
  • Keeps Director, Pricing & Analysis and CFO informed.
  • Demonstrates teamwork, communicates with senior management and peers and productively responds to and provides constructive feedback.
  • Leads the matter management function by assisting with matter setup, budgeting, tracking, and reporting among other responsibilities.
  • Elevates usage of matter management tools to facilitate real-time budget monitoring for attorneys.
  • Partners closely with the Pricing team to ensure seamless integration and execution of all matter management activities.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement through use of budget tracking for key matters regardless of fee arrangement type, but particularly fixed fees and contingent fees.
  • Provides financial information and reports on the status of key matters to firm and department leadership.
  • Ensures attorneys are proactively informed about their matters’ financial performance.
  • Enhances attorney efficiency and effectiveness through use of financial reporting tools.
  • Supports the assessment and implementation of technology tools and training modules.
