About The Position

This position leads the team of Electrical Engineers, Electrical Designers, and Electrical Engineering support staff for Crystal Group’s Engineering organization. The manager and team will execute commercial and defense programs for United States-based customers, and customers outside of the United States. You'll lead 10 to 20 engineers and designers in building everything developing complex, ruggedized electrical solutions for everything from custom power solutions to high-performance computing systems, all designed to operate in the harshest military, commercial, and industrial environments. What you and your team will develop includes: Custom circuit assemblies, including signal routing and management boards, computer peripheral devices, environmental monitoring and control systems, and sensor acquisition systems Redundant AC and DC power solutions for high performance computing Ruggedized high-speed and high-power interconnects Integration and ruggedization of commercial off the shelf components Designs that meet and exceed challenging military, commercial, and industrial standards Software and firmware development for embedded applications As the team’s leader, you will own the plans, implementation, and support of your team; technology and innovation; and processes, tools, and excellence: Recruit, mentor, and develop electrical engineers from new engineers to principal-level experts Build a culture of innovation, quality, and continuous improvement Guide careers and drive professional growth Technology and Innovation Lead architecture decisions for power systems, signal integrity, and electrical design Drive technical performance in both custom and product line solutions Engage in a program’s full lifecycle, from pursuit through production Processes and Excellence Implement our electrical engineering design and development processes from pursuit to production Drive speed and quality through smart tooling and best practices Ensure compliance with military, commercial, and industrial standards The electrical engineering manager works with others across and outside of the company, including project and program teams, engineering staff, senior and executive company leadership, operations, suppliers, subcontractors, customers, and consultants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related technical field
  • Minimum 8 years of electrical engineering experience with at least 3 years in management or technical leadership roles
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex hardware products from concept to production
  • Experience leading and engaging a motivated, energetic team of Electrical design staff
  • Deep expertise in analog and digital circuit design, power electronics, and signal integrity
  • Experience with ruggedized electronics design for harsh environments: temperature, shock, vibration, and humidity
  • Knowledge of military standards, such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and MIL-STD-704, and industrial certifications
  • Experience with EDA electrical design tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence, or similar
  • Understanding of EMI/EMC design principles and compliance testing
  • Experience with thermal analysis and management in compact, high-power systems
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Demonstratable experience with managing project technical cost, schedule, and performance using earned value metrics.
  • Experience with the full product life cycle, from pursuit through design and development and to transition to production.
  • Understanding of export control regulations including ITAR and EAR
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator and presenter, and experience with collaborating and communicating with peers, leadership, customers, partners, and suppliers
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, matrixed organizations

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership Lead, coach, and mentor a team of electrical engineers, providing career guidance and professional development
  • Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and manage team capacity and resource allocation
  • Lead through example to have a collaborative engineering culture focused on innovation, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Recruit and onboard new staff
  • Technical Leadership Accountable for the technical direction for electrical design projects
  • Collaborate with the Chief Engineer and engage in the architecture decisions for electrical system design, power systems, signal integrity, and thermal management
  • Manage product developments for compliance with Crystal Group electrical manufacturability guidelines and product design language
  • Review and approve electrical designs, schematics, PCB layouts, interconnect designs, and testing protocols
  • Drive the continuous improvement for best practices in design verification, validation, and quality assurance at speed
  • Establish and maintain departmental electrical design standards
  • Project Management Manage multiple concurrent projects from concept through production release
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including systems engineering, mechanical engineering, software, manufacturing, and quality assurance
  • Develop project timelines, allocate staff and resources, and ensure deliverables meet schedule and budget constraints
  • Engage with customers on technical requirements and design solutions
  • Manage design changes, configuration control, and engineering documentation
  • Strategic Planning Responsible for product roadmap planning and technology strategy development for electrical engineering
  • Identify emerging technologies, industry, process, and tools trends
  • Contribute to business development activities and proposal responses
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the Engineering organizations
