Job Summary The Manager of Electric Distribution Grid Planning is responsible for leading the development and execution of strategic plans to enhance the electric distribution grid, ensuring reliability, resilience, and affordability for customers. This role balances economic, environmental, social, and regulatory considerations while driving innovation and modernization across the grid. The manager oversees grid planning support activities, including engineering studies, system modeling, data analytics, and program management. This position requires active participation in industry organizations to represent the company's interests and influence future directions. Coordination with other energy distribution and generation entities is essential to achieve integrated and sustainable outcomes.

Requirements

  • 8-10+ years of significant related experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of electric distribution systems and operations.
  • Proven leadership experience managing technical teams.
  • Strong knowledge of NERC, FERC, and other regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with DER integration, grid operations, and emerging technologies.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets and business plans.
  • Commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • PE license preferred and may be substituted for BS Engineering degree.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement long-term electric distribution grid improvement plans aligned with customer needs and policy objectives.
  • Ensure plans address reliability, resilience, safety, affordability, and sustainability goals.
  • Formulate investment strategies that incorporate emerging technologies such as energy storage, microgrids, and electric vehicles.
  • Design roadmaps for infrastructure upgrades to enable digitalization, automation, and integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER).
  • Enhance grid observability and control through advanced sensors, communication systems, and analytics.
  • Utilize high-performance modeling tools for load forecasting, DER impact analysis, and grid simulations.
  • Leverage GIS, SCADA, AMI, and other data sources for infrastructure assessments.
  • Apply generative and agentic AI solutions to solve complex planning challenges.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of grid planning with broader energy strategies.
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers and technical professionals responsible for grid planning and modernization initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability within the team.
