About The Position

The Manager, Development will play a critical role in strengthening Latinos for Education’s (L4E) fundraising effectiveness by leading high-quality grant writing and reporting, owning prospect research and development workflows, and ensuring seamless coordination across teams. This role enhances the operational excellence of the Development team by translating strategy into well-executed proposals, reports, and fundraising materials, while keeping development work organized, aligned, and moving forward. This role is a highly collaborative, execution-focused position that does not set overall fundraising strategy, but plays a critical role in implementing priorities and improving systems established by Development leadership and based on organizational strategy.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of general professional experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, including grant writing and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent grant deadlines and reporting calendars, ensuring timely, accurate submissions across multiple funders.
  • Experience prospecting new funders and aligning them with an organization’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Latinos for Education.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to effectively engage in writing and in-person (including virtually) with a variety of stakeholders and audiences, adapting communication to the needs of audiences to build sense of shared purpose and progress work forward.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives, manage projects end to end within defined scope, monitor milestones, ensure high-quality, on-time deliverables, and effectively delegate to consultants as applicable.
  • Proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams, managing internal and external meetings, and building strong working relationships that support follow-through, problem-solving, and shared goals.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct research and generate insights from data to inform planning, prioritization, and operational decision-making.
  • Proactive self-starter with strong adaptability, resilience, and growth mindset, able to navigate change, balance competing priorities, and incorporate feedback to improve outcomes.

  • Strong operational expertise, with the ability to both learn and apply software tools, and effectively integrate generative AI tools into daily workflows to improve efficiency, decision-making, and collaboration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe, MS Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Zoom.
  • Proficient in CRM management; Salesforce CRM preferred, with a demonstrated ability to manage development data, create reports, and optimize system functionality to support fundraising efforts.
  • Proficiency in Monday.com or other project management software (Latinos for Education uses Monday.com).
  • Intermediate proficiency with generative AI tools, understanding core concepts like LLMs and their applications, and proficiency using generative AI tools for specific tasks to improve efficiency and decision-making (note that Latinos for Education provides OpenAI for Nonprofit [ChatGPT] accounts for all employees).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the drafting, editing, and finalization of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports, leveraging artificial intelligence tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of materials.
  • Translate programmatic outcomes, financial data, and organizational strategy into compelling written narratives.
  • Ensure grant proposals and reports align with funder guidelines, L4E’s strategic priorities, and organizational voice.
  • Conduct prospect research for institutional and individual funder prospects aligned with L4E’s mission and growth priorities.
  • Prepare internal funder briefs, talking points, and background documents for leadership and fundraisers.
  • Add newly identified prospects to the appropriate portfolios and document next steps, owners, and timelines to move them forward.
  • Develop, update, and tailor fundraising collateral such as one-pagers, pitch decks, and case-for-support documents in coordination with the Marketing and Communications team.
  • Own and manage day-to-day development operations and workflow systems, ensuring fundraising deliverables are coordinated, accurate, and on schedule.
  • Drive innovations in development operations through identifying opportunities for increased efficiency and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Provide direction and oversight to a part-time development operations and data management contractor to ensure data accuracy, timely updates, and smooth execution of day-to-day operational tasks.
  • Maintain clear internal timelines and responsibilities for grants, reports, and fundraising deliverables, leveraging systems/software such as Salesforce and Monday.com.
  • Coordinate internal reviews, approvals, and handoffs across Development, Programs, Finance, and Leadership to ensure high-quality, timely submissions.
  • Serve as the primary internal point person to keep grant and reporting work moving forward, proactively flag risks, and recommend and implement solutions to resolve bottlenecks in partnership with relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare internal briefing materials, agendas, and follow-up notes for Development team meetings.
  • Work closely with colleagues to gather data, stories, and financial information needed for fundraising deliverables.
  • Support internal planning and prioritization for development initiatives.
  • Participate in all-staff meetings and retreats.
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration, clarity, accountability, and operational excellence within the Development team.
