About The Position

The Compensation Manager is responsible for the oversight, administration, and maintenance of the College’s compensation programs. This position oversees compensation strategy while also conducting operational activities such as job evaluations, pay data analysis, and compensation-related processes in HR systems. This position ensures consistency, equity, and compliance across all employee groups. The role works closely with HR team members and departments to provide timely, accurate compensation information and recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field.
  • 4-5 years of related experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical and data review skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information confidentially.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the Higher Education industry preferred.
  • Workday experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Compensation Program Management: Execute and maintain compensation guidelines and ensure consistent application across employee groups.
  • Manage and perform reviews of compensation recommendations, internal equity analyses, and pay decision processes.
  • Ensure compensation practices align with institutional policies, federal and state regulations, and internal equity standards.
  • Develop and maintain compensation procedures, documentation, and audit readiness.
  • Partner closely with Finance to support accurate personnel budgeting, financial modeling, and forecasting related to compensation programs, salary structures, and workforce planning.
  • Ensure compensation recommendations are financially sound, aligned with budget parameters, and supported by reliable data.
  • Job Evaluation and Job Description Management Collaborate with managers and Human Resources colleagues to develop, review, and revise job descriptions for accuracy and alignment.
  • Conduct and oversee job evaluations to ensure alignment with established criteria.
  • Document outcomes and communicate with leaders.
  • Work closely with Talent Acquisition on the coordination and communication of offer recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition Manager on all FVTC reorganizations which require HR support.
  • Maintain job profiles and related data in Workday.
  • Compensation Program Administration In preparation for annual compensation cycles and union negotiations, gather market data, update benchmarks, and complete compensation analysis.
  • Support development of the annual compensation budget, range progression, and market adjustment recommendations.
  • Participate in negotiations with Faculty and Support Staff unions.
  • Calculate and process annual and ad-hoc employee compensation changes and one-time payments.
  • Lead compensation projects to ensure competitive, equitable, and compliant pay practices that align with organizational strategy
  • Market Analysis and Program Research Complete compensation surveys and maintain benchmark data.
  • Monitor market trends and analyze potential impacts on College programs to support job evaluations and compensation decisions.
  • Contracts and Documentation Work with leaders to gather data for budgeting and contracts.
  • Prepare and distribute employee contracts and letters of appointment at time of offer and during annual review.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to job evaluations, compensation decisions, and market data.
  • Leadership, Customer Service, and Collaboration Create, maintain, and deliver compensation training for various audiences.
  • Provide guidance to HR colleagues, leaders, and employees on compensation matters.
  • Collaborate on projects related to staffing, classification, and organizational initiatives.
  • Lead, supervise, and support the HR Specialist, ensuring accuracy and compliance in job changes, terminations, and compensation‑related transactions.
