About The Position

Position Purpose: The Manager, Fire Systems will be responsible for leading the team for all expense repairs (break/fix), capital replacement programs and strategic initiatives related to fire protection systems for the Home Depot. They must possess a high level of knowledge related to the fire industry along with understanding of NFPA 13, NFPA 20, NFPA 25 and/or NFPA 72. Candidate must have an analytical ability to distinguish multiple components of a problem and develop conclusions using quantitative skills. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to managing/leading a team of 3-5 associates, cross functional project management of key asset replacement, vendor management and performance, effective communication to key contributors and other leaders, reviewing and understanding financial and operational data, and identifying trends in fire protection, budget management, and organizational skills. A successful Manager of Building Services will possess and demonstrate strong communication skills, Entrepreneurial spirit, project management and analytical ability, which will enable them to take the lead on proactive analytics related to fire protection systems. They must also possess an ability to navigate ambiguity and create their own strategic plans. The associate must have strong project management skills to implement program and process changes while working cross-functionally and communicating with internal and external business partners. The role will require a candidate that has very good communication and customer service skills to tailor messaging to various audiences while acting as a liaison between several functional groups. This role maintains an effective partnership with our vendor base, field leaders, including Regional/Senior Directors, Regional Vice Presidents, and will also require the associate to provide escalated support and issue resolution.

Requirements

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
  • 5+ years of work experience is preferred in the field of fire protection
  • High level of understanding of NFPA 25 (water systems) and/or NFPA72 (alarm systems)
  • Understanding of databases and reports necessary to prepare and present analysis utilizing Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and develop business partner relationships to achieve company goals.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Project management skills that include the ability to create short- and long-term strategies, including elements needed to execute set expectations.
  • Ability to manage budgets associated with both capital and expense spend.
  • Experience with process improvement and implementation, playing a leadership role.
  • Experience with managing either internal or external groups (ex. Vendors, teams, etc.)
  • Ability to influence others without direct authority.
  • Knowledge in analyzing data trends and reporting.
  • Ability to source and interpret data from a variety of applications.
  • Ability to learn and become sharp in various systems.
  • Desire to support and provide excellent customer service to field and internal partners including Regional/Senior Directors and Regional Vice Presidents
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Nice To Haves

  • NICET certified Level II in Fire Alarm Systems, Water Based Systems Layout, or Inspections and Testing of Water Based Systems

Responsibilities

  • Analyze the fundamental components of problems and communicate the correct course of action to the team and the resolution to the field.
  • Develop and implement changes that improve overall store operations processes that are likely to add value to the stores' bottom line.
  • Manage/drive core store operations projects and/or process improvements.
  • Manage day to day processes related to their areas of responsibility.
  • Create and maintain project work plans.
  • Manage issues and roadblocks that arise related to their area of responsibility.
  • Respond proactively to unanticipated store needs arising out of a variety of inputs.
  • Manage action steps necessary for successful execution of both strategic projects/initiatives and process improvement.
  • Communicate effectively and build strong, effective partnerships with the field/stores and throughout The Home Depot.
  • Prepare and deliver high-level insights and recommendations based on multiple analyses of industry/ business, competitive landscape, consumer data for area of expertise.
  • Provide guidance and training specific to area of expertise.
  • Assist in collaborating findings from data and making verbal/written recommendations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency/understanding of specific processes.
  • Maintain knowledge base regarding specific operations and processes within store operations
  • Responsible for appropriate selection, terminations, performance appraisal and professional development of support team (Business Analysts).
