About The Position

This position independently performs advanced level work under the limited supervision of the Government Operations Consultant II in the Office of the Inspector General, Department of Education. The role involves performing activities to detect fraud and conducting workshops and trainings to teach others how to detect and prevent fraud within the Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) and School Readiness (SR) programs for the Division of Early Learning. The Florida Department of Education's Office of the Commissioner, Office of Inspector General, is located in the Tallahassee Turlington Building. The FDOE's mission is to improve Florida's education system for students of all backgrounds and abilities, focusing on increasing proficiency, seamless articulation, skilled workforce development, and quality services for approximately 3 million students, 4,400 public schools, 28 colleges, 200,000 instructional staff, 46,000 college professors and administrators, and 340,000 full-time staff. Additionally, FDOE manages programs that assist individuals who are blind, visually-impaired, or disabled.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of professional related work experience, preferably in fraud prevention or experience in a related field.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or University in business administration, economics, finance, management, accounting, public administration, social science, or other qualitative or quantitative analysis and research fields can substitute for 4 years of direct experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs activities to prevent, detect, and deter fraud within the Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) and School Readiness (SR) programs.
  • Reviews incoming complaints related to fraud in the VPK and SR programs and responds accordingly.
  • Administers the Fraud Referral System (FRS) by conducting periodic access reviews and maintaining an updated access control list.
  • Reviews Anti-Fraud Plans submitted by Early Learning Coalitions (ELC) for compliance with the requirements set forth in law.
  • Conducts training and workshops to teach the ELCs how to prevent, detect, and deter fraud within their programs.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of Early Learning Fraud Prevention policies and procedures, quality assurance and improvement programs, and the annual report.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

  • Annual Leave - Employees in Senior Management Service and Selected Exempt Service positions are credited with 176 hours of annual leave upon appointment. In subsequent years, the annual allotment is credited on the anniversary date of the initial appointment.
