About The Position

This position is responsible for keeping docks, grounds and equipment in optimal operating condition, repairing when able, and recommending service calls when repair is beyond his/her ability or knowledge. Will provide maintenance and cleaning of all areas and coverage for janitorial crews scheduled time off.

Requirements

  • Able to read, speak and understand English in order to communicate with the public and superiors and report needed repairs.
  • Able to jump from dock to boat and back.
  • Able to swim because the majority of the work is around the water.
  • Able to lift 70 pounds to a 45-inch height and carry it 100 yards.
  • Able to perform necessary functions to resolve an oil spill.
  • Able to work a forty- (40) hour work week, and in some cases over-time.
  • Able to work weekends.
  • Able to work outside in all types of weather.
  • Ability to paint and patch wood or plaster.
  • Able to work a forty (40) hour workweek including overtime if necessary.
  • Ability to swim.
  • Must attend appropriate training to attain Certification in the prevention and resolution of oil spills.
  • Demonstrate experience in all the required repair/maintenance knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
  • Ability to use standard operating guidelines; product and equipment labels and instructions; dilution/conversion charts; pH charts; Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS); floor vacuums (wet and dry); Floor-buffers, carpet shampoo, steam cleaners, mops brooms, dustpans, ladders, and small hand tools.
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
  • Ability to work without constant supervision and make decisions as permitted on a day-to-day basis.
  • Ability to use a hand-held radio.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Must pass a background check to be issued and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) badge as condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general labor and operates small equipment as assigned.
  • Paints various types of surfaces.
  • Helps put up plaster board and patch walls.
  • Cleans bathrooms and shower facilities as assigned.
  • Cleans and maintains docks, makes general repairs including, but not limited to carpentry repairs both surface and under water.
  • Assists with cleanup of fuel spills.
  • Responsible for keeping trash and recycling areas clean and orderly.
  • Assists other Port Operation personnel when necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining Key West Bight Marina and surrounding Historic Seaport Grounds. Duties will include but are not limited to trash pickup, weeding, mowing, sweeping, animal waste removal, pressure washing, etc.
  • Enforcement of all rules and regulations as per Marina Policy.
  • Always maintain a pleasant and courteous manner when dealing with the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or required.
