The City has a total of three (3) Maintenance Worker I/II vacancies in the Public Works and Community Services Departments. The duties of the Maintenance Workers include, but are not limited to, Inspects and/or repairs equipment at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the equipment are safe and functioning safely. Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, materials supply, consumption, etc. Determines and marks the locations of system wirings and stormwater and water lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation. Responds to complaints regarding functional areas; evaluates situation; explains findings to supervisor. Functional areas for Public Works include street conditions, street signs, storm water system problems, traffic signals and street lighting. Functional areas for Community Services include tree conditions, ball field conditions, irrigation system problems, park, building and ball field lighting. Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use. Safely operates vehicles of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, and other job functions. For Public Works, this includes gravel, sand, concrete, asphalt and base rock. For Community Services, this includes soil and sand and performing tree work. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew. For Public Works, this includes pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying pipe, trenching and backfilling. For Community Services, this includes laying pipe, trenching and backfilling, maintaining ball fields including original layouts such as installation and leveling of surfaces; base positioning and installation; and layout of all field markings. Performs other duties as assigned.
