About The Position

MAINTENANCE WORKER / CUSTODIAN Full-time position starting at $17.32/hour. Excellent benefits including City-paid employee medical and dental insurance, PTO, 11 paid holidays, general pension, and more. Monday - Friday, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm. GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Under general supervision, performs work in the maintenance and cleaning of City buildings, grounds and facilities. Work involves performing a wide range of custodial tasks of routine difficulty involving the use of cleaning equipment and materials. Reports to the Public Works Facilities Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED with janitorial or related custodial work and ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of cleaning equipment.
  • Must be able to stay in bending, kneeling, or squatting position for periods less than 10 minutes.
  • Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Requires the ability to climb and maneuver on ladders, and/or in tight spaces.
  • Physical demand requirements are for Medium Work.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general cleaning duties of assigned facilities to maintain neat, orderly and sanitary facilities.
  • Sweeps, mops, polishes, strips, waxes, and vacuums.
  • Washes walls, windows, woodwork, and mirrors and dusts work areas.
  • Cleans all restrooms and fixtures; checks and stocks supplies; ensures that all lavatory installations are working and reports those that need repair.
  • Operates golf cart to travel to bathrooms out on the course for cleaning.
  • Removes and disposes of all trash in designated areas.
  • Takes trash to dumpsters and recycles items as required.
  • Climbs ladders to change lamps and ceiling tiles.
  • Operates pressure washer to keep outside of building, porches, and walkways clean.
  • Must deal with City staff and general public in a positive and professional way.
  • Must have general knowledge of plumbing or electrical conditions to identify potential problems and prevent or reduce hazards to the general public and coworkers.
  • Performs other related work as required.
