SUMMARY The school custodian is responsible for accomplishing a daily routine of custodial tasks that provides personnel, students, and the public with an environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to work and conduct parish/school activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. Other duties may be required and assigned. Performs custodial tasks, i.e., emptying and cleaning waste receptacles; washing windows; dusting furniture; cleaning vents, fans, and walls. Performs sanitizing tasks in various facility areas, i.e., restrooms, kitchen and food areas, cafeterias. Performs physically demanding tasks requiring use of heavy custodial equipment, i.e., mopping, stripping, waxing, floor buffing. Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming. Removes trash by emptying trash containers; transports materials to disposal area; recycles materials. Uses appropriate chemicals and cleaners safely and productively according to instructions and established State Department of Education regulatory to ensure personal, student, public, and staff safety. Responds to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions, i.e., spills, broken windows, broken locks. Requisitions supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties. Moves heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually with assistance or by using hand trucks. Sets up, arranges, or removes decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.
