About The Position

Maintenance Mechanic Job Summary The Maintenance Mechanic position is to perform maintenance task on equipment within the company. This operation includes, but not limited to all production equipment, building, grounds, etc. Reports Mechanics report to the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Cracking Dept. Supervisor Responsibilities – include but are not limited to the following. Responsible for starting up and shutting down the plant. The correct sequence must be followed in order to properly start plant operations. For the shelling plant, Electrical control panels are located on the west wall of the cracking department. These panels control the float equipment, crackers, elevators, conveyors, shellers, sizers, production lines, blowers, pumps, wash tanks, etc.. Responsible for repairs needed on plant equipment. Fast, quality repairs are a must to keep the plant running because production is of utmost importance. Mechanics must be able to identify possible problems with equipment or product flow. The maintenance supervisor should be notified of the potential problems so preventive maintenance can be scheduled. Responsible for work orders issued by the maintenance supervisor for minor repairs within the plant. Responsible for performing preventive maintenance during shutdowns and scheduled time periods. Responsible for following procedures for Temporary Repairs to ensure that safety and quality of products are not compromised. Responsible for ensuring that work area is kept clean and that no product contamination could occur due to maintenance being performed. Responsible for completion of Halves line shell checks, sweco screen checks, and other test assigned by the management team. All checks should be documented on correct forms provided by the maintenance supervisor. Adjustments must be made to correct quality checks that are out of specified ranges. Responsible for communication between production operators to ensure equipment is working efficiently and potential problems are discovered, such as the halves line operator to control moisture of the halves line. Lines must be adjusted to keep the nut moisture within specification set by the management team and customers. Assist maintenance supervisor in keeping an organized parts inventory to allow replacement parts to be readily available for quick repairs and a reduction in plant downtime. Lock Out/Tag Out Procedures shall be followed during maintenance procedures. Cleaning Responsibilities - Include but are not limited to the following. Parts room must be kept clean and organized to assist the supervisor in keeping a current inventory and allow mechanics to quickly and accurately find replacement parts. Keep the maintenance shop work area and equipment clean and free of debris as well as organized. Keep tools clean and in good working condition. Keep tools neatly organized so they are readily accessible. Tools should remain in the maintenance shop unless being used for repair within the plant. No tools should be left in any part of the production area. After repairs are made within the plant, be sure the work area is properly cleaned to keep loose parts and debris from getting into any products. Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) – GMP’s are to be followed while working. Remember, you are working in a food plant and food safety is a top concern for South Georgia Pecan Company. Hairnets and beard coverings are to be worn at all times within the plant Wash and Sanitize hands before returning to work from the bathroom, breaks, lunch, or before entering the plant from outside. No Eating or Drinking inside the plant No Dipping, Chewing Tobacco, Smoking, or Chewing Gum within the plant. No Jewelry within the plant. (Except for medical I.D. bracelets and smooth wedding bands without stones). No false fingernails or eyelashes. No fingernail polish or paint. No open-toed shoes. Rubber soles are preferred. No Hats Exercise good hygiene. If working in production areas, you must have on a clean uniform. All contractors must wear company issued shirts. No open sores on exposed skin in production areas. If sick, please notify management or supervisor and do not enter a production area. Ensure production equipment is operating properly and no parts are missing. Ensure product tools are properly stored, cleaned and sanitized prior to and after each break, lunch, and shift. Ensure Good Housekeeping practices are applied. Food Safety and Quality - All employees are responsible for food safety and quality. Employees are responsible for reporting any food safety and quality problems to their supervisor, production manager and/or plant manager. Employees are responsible for supporting the SQF system. Personnel Safety – Safety of employees is a top priority for South Georgia Pecan Company and each employee needs to remember safety when preforming task of the Job. Lock OUT/Tag OUT Welding Safety – Face Shield and Gloves Training – Training will be provided annually. GMP training HACCP training Advanced HACCP training Food Defense and Crisis Management Sanitation SQF System training
