About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the performance and upkeep of large production machinery within a manufacturing environment. They are crucial in ensuring efficient operation, diagnosing and repairing malfunctions, performing preventive maintenance, and contributing to the overall reliability of equipment.

Requirements

Technical Skills: Good working knowledge of molds and molding equipment, including pumps, hydraulics, gears, sprockets, transmissions, and chain-driven equipment. Ability to troubleshoot and calibrate electrical systems, read electrical prints and schematics, and understand the functions of hydraulic, conveyor, and exhaust systems. Experience with PLCs is valuable. Ability to operate typical machine shop equipment and tools and interpret blueprints and schematics.
Mechanical Aptitude: Strong mechanical inclination and the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues.
Troubleshooting: Ability to identify and resolve equipment malfunctions efficiently.
Problem-Solving: Applying what has been learned to current challenges with a problem-solving mindset.
Blueprint and Schematic Reading: Interpreting technical drawings for maintenance and repair purposes.
Attention to Detail: Being mindful of small details to prevent problems.
Communication: Effective communication skills for interacting with colleagues and supervisors.
Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills for tasks like emails, writing reports, and video conferencing.
Safety Focus: Knowledge of and commitment to safety procedures and regulations.
Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
Bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, and moving as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
Visual acuity for inspecting machines and detailed components.
Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
Working in various positions, potentially including at heights, in confined spaces, or under adverse weather conditions.
Exposure to noisy and potentially hazardous work environments.

Responsibilities

Performing preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines to minimize downtime.
Thoroughly cleaning machines and machine parts, removing and reinstalling parts as needed.
Oiling and lubricating moving parts on machines to ensure smooth and efficient performance.
Troubleshooting and calibrating electrical systems, including 480V, 220V, and 110V.
Reading and interpreting electrical prints and schematics to diagnose and repair issues.
Understanding the knowledge and functions of hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, and exhaust systems.
Gaining or demonstrating experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) for troubleshooting and maintenance.
Recording and reporting damaged, worn, or broken parts, and ordering and installing replacement parts.
Identifying the causes of unexpected breakdowns and repairing machines quickly and efficiently.
Preparing reports to document work performed and maintain equipment history.
Cleaning, organizing, inventorying, stocking, and maintaining shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
Coordinating with managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines.
Collaborating with product managers or plant engineers on new products and required modifications.
Making necessary modifications, implementing test runs, conferring on test results, and making further alterations as needed.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
