About The Position

Empowering People's Independence (EPI) provides support for people with developmental disabilities, epilepsy, and brain injury through progressive, tailored care to improve their health, wellbeing, independence, and social inclusion. The primary purpose of this position is to assist with the maintenance of EPI properties and to ensure they are safe and functional at all times.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Degree or GED required with three (3) years’ experience in general maintenance and carpentry in residential/group homes, apartments, and/or senior living facilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft programs to include Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.
  • Travel is required for this position. A valid NYS Driver’s License is required to operate agency vehicle and/or personal vehicle to all our locations in Binghamton, Rochester & Syracuse.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with employees, family members, and individuals in a pleasant manner.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure all jobs are completed at the highest quality, without hazardous conditions.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, and customer requests, while meeting deadlines.
  • Working knowledge and experience in operating hand and power tools, including saws, drills, and sanders.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Proven ability to measure, cut, and assemble wood, drywall, or other materials to construct frameworks, walls, or furniture.
  • Must be able to talk, hear, stand, walk, and/or sit for extended periods of time; may have to twist, bend, use hand to finger, stretch with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus
  • May be exposed to strong odors from time to time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • While performing the duties of this position, exposure to changing weather conditions will occur.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure EPI properties are always safe and functional.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance and emergency repairs to prevent and resolve safety or comfort issues.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Manager on installation of new equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to ensure EPI properties continue to run smoothly and operate efficiently.
  • Ability to visually inspect facilities, identify health, safety, and general disrepair and initiate and complete all needed work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ensure all EPI properties are aesthetically pleasing, to include installing and patching drywall, painting, staining as requested.
  • Proficient in using carpentry tools and techniques, including measuring, cutting, and assembling materials.
  • Repair and or replace damaged structures, including stairs/staircase and walls
  • Perform skilled carpentry work to prepare structures and frameworks made from wood and other materials.
  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshooting issues and ensuring safety compliance.
  • Replacing light switches or outlets.
  • Fixing damaged wiring.
  • Replacing circuit breakers.
  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing water and drainage systems in residential group settings.
  • Installing fixtures, repairing leaks, unclogging drains, and working with various. plumbing components like pipes, valves, and fittings.
  • Diagnose plumbing issues, conduct routine inspections and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Sump pump repair and replacement.
  • Changing of furnace filters
  • Collaborate with team and other contract workers during renovations, etc.
  • Record and report completed repairs and items that require further attention to the Facilities Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Facilities Manager and/or designee within your scope of practice
  • Other duties as assigned by Facilities Manager or designee within scope of practice.
  • Participate on various committees as able.
  • Attend all meetings as required.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion concerning all business-related matters, including but not limited to board/vendors/donors’ names, investigations, finance, operations, and employee relations matters.
  • Must be willing to complete specific company required trainings as mandated by our governing agency, Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), at time of hire and annually thereafter.
  • Must adhere to all departmental /company policies & procedures at all times.
  • Must comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and organized work areas.
