About The Position

Primary Responsibilities: Support the Physical Plant team in the general repairs and installation of irrigation and drainage systems, construction, maintenance and repairs of buildings and greenhouses. Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices and power tools Operate equipment and complete equipment training Safety – Engage with staff to reduce workplace accidents. Report any safety concerns to the manager immediately. Work with management to investigate all near misses and accidents timely and effectively. Travel between Willoway farm sites in Avon, Huron, Broadview Heights and Hilliard as needed (10% travel within the regular workday). The primary worksite is in Avon, OH. Skills: Basic mathematical skills Attention to detail A willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges Cooperation – being pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good-natured cooperative attitude Valid driver’s license – that is reasonably insurable through the company’s insurance provider Knowledge: 1+ years Knowledge of construction process and methods used in the fabrication, maintenance and repair of structures (e.g. irrigation and drainage repairs, wood and steel framing, concrete work) Knowledge of general construction practices and procedures involved in the maintenance and repair of building structures and underground utilities Building and construction – knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings or other structures Abilities: Manual Dexterity – The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects Arm-Hand Steadiness – The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one place Multi-limb Coordination – The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting or standing Static Strength – The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects Control Precision – The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions Work Environment: The General Maintenance Laborer will be working in all areas of the nursery in all seasons of the year. Working within buildings, trenches, green houses and pump houses as well as working on remote equipment located outside of buildings within the nursery. The work areas could be on top of buildings, accessed by man lift or ladder. Could be dusty, muddy, hot, cold or wet. In addition, this position requires specific certifications – including use of a respirator when working with various forms of acid and chemicals used with irrigation injection. All training and certifications will be provided by the company. Work Schedule: Hourly position, working approximately 40 - 45 hours per week. Monday through Friday approximately 7am-4pm. Some Saturdays will be required in peak season or critical times.
