About The Position

The Maintenance Technician is a frontline employee responsible for performing maintenance and repair tasks on equipment and systems within a poultry processing plant. This role ensures the operational reliability of machinery, such as conveyors, refrigeration units, and processing equipment, by conducting repairs, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting under the guidance of the Maintenance Lead or Supervisor, while adhering to safety and operational standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma; technical training or cert. in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance.
  • Experience in industrial maintenance, ideally in a poultry or food processing environment.
  • Ability to work in a cold, wet, and noisy plant environment with exposure to poultry odors and machinery hazards.
  • Technical skills in repairing mechanical, electrical, and basic refrigeration systems.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, or work orders to perform repairs accurately.
  • Problem-solving skills to diagnose and address equipment issues efficiently.
  • Physical stamina to stand, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs during maintenance tasks or inspections.
  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions from Maintenance Leads or Supervisors.
  • Basic understanding of safety and food safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of plant equipment, including mechanical systems (e.g., conveyors, pumps), electrical components, and refrigeration units.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance tasks as assigned, such as lubricating parts, replacing worn components, or cleaning equipment to prevent breakdowns.
  • Respond to equipment malfunctions during production, executing repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Use tools and diagnostic equipment to identify and fix mechanical or electrical problems.
  • Assist in maintaining refrigeration systems under supervision, following safety protocols.
  • Report completed repairs, parts used, and ongoing issues to the Maintenance Lead or Supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regs and food safety standards during all maintenance activities.
  • Keep work areas, tools, and equipment clean and organized, adhering to sanitation guidelines in a food processing environment.
  • Support the Maintenance Lead or Supv during emergency repairs or major equipment overhauls.
  • Notify supervisors of significant equipment failures or supply needs promptly.
