About The Position

The Maintenance Superintendent provides strategic and hands‑on leadership for all maintenance activities within the Bar Mill and Melt Shop. This role oversees maintenance supervisors, repair personnel, and utility staff to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all equipment. The Superintendent manages work prioritization, resource allocation, training, compliance, and continuous improvement efforts while fostering a high‑morale, collaborative, and safety‑focused work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate company goals, objectives, and priorities to all maintenance personnel, both supervisory and hourly.
  • Lead the training, development, and performance management of supervisors, repairers, and utility personnel.
  • Enforce company rules, regulations, and performance standards for both salaried and hourly employees.
  • Conduct weekly one‑on‑one meetings with all salaried direct reports.
  • Maintain high morale and promote a cooperative, engaged workforce.
  • Actively participate in safety initiatives, including safety contacts, audits, and prompt accident investigations.
  • Enforce all safety policies, procedures, and productivity programs.
  • Promote good housekeeping and ensure a safe, compliant work environment across the Bar Mill and Melt Shop.
  • Supervise and direct maintenance supervisors and hourly trades in daily repair, troubleshooting, and equipment modification activities.
  • Review incoming work requests, assign priorities based on production requirements and manpower availability.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues to determine root causes and required repairs.
  • Ensure parts, materials, and tools are available to support planned and unplanned work.
  • Maintain accurate logs of completed work, overtime records, and verify time sheet accuracy.
  • Review job requirements to determine labor, equipment, and material needs.
  • Order parts, materials, and tools as required.
  • Collaborate with Department Managers and Planners to develop and execute maintenance schedules and long‑range plans.
  • Ensure interdepartmental cooperation to support production goals and minimize downtime.
  • Prioritize maintenance activities based on manufacturing needs and equipment criticality.
  • Apply strong oral communication skills to instruct, direct, and resolve conflicts among employees.
  • Use effective written communication for internal correspondence and procedure development.
  • Interpret specifications, procedures, and technical documentation to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrate persuasion, negotiation, and motivational skills to maintain productivity and achieve win‑win solutions.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and manage effectively through change, interruptions, and high‑demand situations.
  • Anticipate and surface consequential issues, applying sound problem‑solving and urgency to resolve them.
