About The Position

Installs, repairs, and maintains heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems and associated equipment. Responsibilities EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Installs, repairs, maintains, and services a wide variety of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment including oil and gas fired hot water and low-pressure steam boiler burners, pumps, compressors, condensers, electronic and pneumatic temperature control systems, and related parts and assemblies. Screws, bolts, and brazes parts to assemble HVACR components such as motors, pneumatic and electronic controls, switches, gauges, wiring harnesses, valves, pumps, compressors, condensers, and pipes. Diagnoses malfunctions of HVACR equipment. Evaluates and tests equipment and component operations. Dismantles systems and components. Replaces and adjusts defective or worn parts. Records and maintains accurate records of work performed, time and materials used. Prepares lists to ensure efficient use of parts and supplies to be requisitioned for assigned jobs. Drives an automobile or light truck to transport workers and equipment to and from job sites. Lifts and carries HVACR equipment, parts, tools, and supplies. Climbs ladders, crawls, bends, and stoops to access HVACR systems. Communicates appropriately and frequently with faculty, school administrators, supervisor/ manager(s) and other employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training, and Experience: Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent. Possession of a State of Maryland journey HVACR license or an equivalent fulfills experiential requirement. Licenses and Certifications Possession of a State of Maryland journey HVACR license or an equivalent. Possession of a Type I and II technician's certification (CFC certification) approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent. Possession of a Baltimore County journey gas fitter license or an equivalent preferred. Required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout employment in this position. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration repair. Knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations governing refrigerant handling and disposal. Skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems and associated equipment. Skill in testing and diagnosing malfunctioning equipment and systems. Skill in determining necessary procedures for repair. Skill in selecting appropriate tools, equipment, and parts needed to complete work. Skill in leading and instructing others. Skill in keeping records of work performed. Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: The work of this class entails heavy physical labor including frequent walking, standing, kneeling, reaching, bending, digging, lifting, and carrying objects of moderate to heavy weight, ascending/descending ladders, scaffolds, stairs and the use of tools and equipment. Works in confined spaces in proximity to loud machinery, frequently requires accessing and positioning oneself to reach limited access spaces including but not limited to crawl spaces, roofs, trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels. Recognizes exposure to live circuits and/or operating machinery in adverse weather conditions and travel to sites throughout Baltimore County.
