About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a skilled and highly motivated tradesperson who excels in performing facility maintenance activities. This position will be labor-intensive in areas such as plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, masonry, building repair/maintenance, heating/cooling, and ventilation work. The Maintenance Specialist I will be a member of a team that will work on minor renovation projects, painting, carpet replacement, and ceiling tile replacement. You will be joining a professional building maintenance team located in the headquarters of NDOT. Your work will be primarily in the Lincoln metro area, with some overnight travel to remote locations throughout the state that serve as scale facilities and laboratory facilities. Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade.
  • Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations, OR training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency
  • Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
  • Some overnight travel to remote locations throughout the state that serve as scale and laboratory facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with occupational and safety precautions of the building and mechanical trades.
  • Experience in Building Automation Software and Hardware.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing HVAC components.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team performing preventative/predictive maintenance procedures as scheduled, and enter/maintain preventative maintenance data and reports in asset management software.
  • Participate in office remodeling and construction projects: carpet, ceiling, painting, and lights.
  • Assist with snow removal operations, which will require work before and after business hours.
  • Operate/Program building automation system (METASYS), troubleshoot, and repair components.
  • Maintain equipment and parts inventory.
  • Participate in the maintenance of emergency generators, underground fuel tanks, and associated records.
  • Participate in the movement of staff to and from office suites, including the assembly of system furniture and the moving of occupants' possessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
