Maintenance Performance Intern

Principle Bussiness EnterprisesDunbridge, OH

About The Position

A maintenance department intern focused on KPIs, specifically establishing Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) tracking, plays a critical role in transitioning a department from reactive “fire-fighting” to proactive, data-driven reliability management. The intern’s primary responsibility is to create the systems – whether manual spreadsheets or CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) configurations – that accurately capture equipment performance data, analyze it, and present findings that lead to reduced downtime.

Requirements

  • A rising junior or senior, working toward a Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.
  • In good academic standing, with a GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Well organized, able to work independently on multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional and appropriate attitude, appearance, interpersonal skills, and work ethic
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and establishing sound Data Tracking Processes
  • Review CMMS/Digital Tools: Evaluate data collection systems/methods to calculate usable MTTR and MTBF values easily
  • Review current processes for downtime tracking and ensure the correct data can be acquired to calculate KPI’s properly
  • KPI Calculation and Analysis
  • MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure): Tracking total operational time divided by number of failures to identify how reliably equipment performs.
  • MTTR (Mean Time to Repair): Measuring the average time to diagnose, fix, and return equipment to operation.
  • OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) Calculation: Incorporating availability metrics into overall productivity dashboards.
  • Process Improvement Initiatives
  • Identifying bottlenecks: Analyzing why repair times (MTTR) are high (e.g. waiting for parts, lack of training) and proposing solutions.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Conducting RCA on equipment with low MTBF to extend time between failures through better PMs (Preventative Maintenance)
  • Improving PM Schedules: Using MTBF data to adjust PM frequency, moving from time-based to usage-based maintenance.
  • Reporting and Communication
  • Creating Dashboards: Develop visual dashboards to highlight daily/weekly performance for management and technicians
  • Work Order/Corrective Action Auditing: Ensuring technicians properly fill out work orders and corrective actions with sufficient information, failure codes, repair times, and actions which are essential for accurate KPIs.
  • Setting up new work structures in the eMaint system to support new line launches
  • Aid the team to improve flow & 5S initiatives in the part cribs & supporting areas
