About The Position

Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation is expanding their team and hiring a Maintenance & Operations Technician at Eastway Regional Recreation Center. This full-time position will address facility work orders, perform technical repairs, routine maintenance, and provide general facility support to all employees at the recreation center. This includes but is not limited to coordinating set-up and breakdown during facility events and programs, maintenance, and upkeep of interior and exterior grounds, and providing assistance during facility programs and events. The incumbent may also be requested to address maintenance needs at other recreation facilities throughout Mecklenburg County. This full-time position may require the incumbent to work evenings, rotating weekends and holidays based on business/facility needs. Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience related to area of assignment
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges
  • General knowledge of applicable computer programs
  • Knowledge of light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and hazards associated with work
  • Knowledge of the use of the tools, equipment, supplies, and methods used in the maintenance activities
  • Skill in filling out daily work sheets and other required forms
  • Skill in operating light trucks, small tractors, mowers and similar automotive equipment
  • Ability to maintain effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusting effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements or cultures (Adaptability)

Responsibilities

  • Perform setup, breakdown and cleaning during programs, rentals & events
  • Responsible for providing customer service during programs, special events, and during facility operating hours.
  • Perform routine and non-routine cleaning services to facility including restrooms, rental facilities and future outdoor amenities
  • Remove limbs and debris; blows leaves off sidewalks and greenways; clears mud and water from greenway tunnels after storms, and mow and trim ballfields, remove trash in exterior trash receptacles
  • Assist in manual labor such as brick laying, pipe laying, painting, carpentry and other construction tasks
  • Layout measurements and line ballfields and assist in performing field maintenance
  • Operate power mowers, chainsaws, brush cutter, edger and clippers, power washers, ATVs, litter vacuum, and other equipment used in facility maintenance, landscaping, roadside maintenance, and right of way cleaning.
  • Open gates and removes trash
  • Assist repair technicians in duties
  • May operate light equipment such as utility vehicles, tractors, mowers and dump trucks
  • May serve as a lead on a small work crew, community service workers, volunteers and/or part-timers
  • May receive, sort, and package materials
