About The Position

A maintenance mechanic is responsible for the satisfactory performance of light and heavy manual tasks involved in the maintenance of water/wastewater division equipment, building, facilities, and grounds as assigned. Work is performed under the direction of a supervisor or foreman, but many tasks assigned are routine and repetitive in nature and once learned, should be carried on without difficulty and under general supervision. Work is evaluated by observation of completed tasks; work is reviewed through oral and written reports, attendance, safety, cooperation, knowledge of job duties, and ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalency.
  • Must have experience with pumps, electrical/mechanical equipment, and plumbing.
  • Must have good knowledge of water and wastewater construction, inspection, and maintenance.
  • Must be able to take and pass an aptitude test.
  • Ability to perform work requiring heavy physical activity and outdoor work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of operating water and wastewater equipment and tools.
  • Nature of work requires endurance, coordination, and dexterity.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a related field.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, manholes, and trenches.
  • Must have the ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must possess a valid state of Florida CDL Class B, with tanker endorsement license.
  • Must pass the background screening process.

Nice To Haves

  • Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection A or C License is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performance of light and heavy manual labor as assigned.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools and pumps; assists in maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Required to work extended hours when needed.
  • Performs work in and repairs tanks, sludge filters, aerators, filtration equipment, ditches, trenches, lift stations, manholes, main lines, leak detection, and services laterals.
  • Performs cleaning and maintenance of buildings, facilities, and grounds; cuts grass and does grounds-keeping activities as assigned.
  • Ability to safely operate the division's new and existing tools, vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintains assigned equipment, performs required repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Performs work in compliance with work safety standards and procedures.
  • Responds to emergency callouts.
  • Cross-train as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
