Under the direction of the Dive Safety Officer and Assistant Curator of Reef Life, the Maintenance Diver is responsible for performing routine and specialized underwater maintenance in aquarium habitats. This role ensures the cleanliness, safety, and operational integrity of exhibits while supporting animal health and maintaining compliance with dive safety standards.

Requirements

  • Rescue level SCUBA certification from a recognized agency such as: PADI, NAUI, SSI or equivalent
  • Minimum of 50 logged dives
  • Minimum of 6 dives completed within the past 12 months
  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Ability to commit to at least 2 scheduled dive shifts per week
  • Current certifications in: CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen Provider
  • Ability to pass confined water swim and SCUBA skills evaluation
  • Ability to pass and maintain required dive medical clearance
  • Ability to rescue and assist divers in emergency situations
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Comfort working in water temperatures ranging from 70°F to 82°F
  • Strong situational awareness and safety mindset
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to follow technical, safety, and operational procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating procedures, and technical manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members

Nice To Haves

  • CPR/AED (Healthcare Provider level preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform underwater cleaning and maintenance of aquarium exhibits, including: Hand cleaning acrylic viewing panels, Vacuuming substrate, Scrubbing rocks manually or using hydraulic scrubbers
  • Work safely in habitats containing free swimming marine animals, including sharks and fish
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper care of locker rooms, dive gear, and related equipment
  • Follow all equipment disinfection and sanitation procedures
  • Report to all scheduled dive shifts on time and prepared
  • Adhere to all dive program policies, procedures, and safety protocols
  • Maintain situational awareness while working on dive decks and underwater
  • Participate in required annual training and recertification programs
  • Immediately notify Dive Operations leadership of any physical or mental condition that may affect dive fitness
  • Support overall exhibit quality, safety, and operational standards
