About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The primary purpose of the Plant Maintenance Section is to ensure the successful operation of the physical plant and facility infrastructure. This position supervises the five mechanical maintenance trades (Plumbing, Generalist, HVAC, Electrical and Night Shift) and reports to the Facilities Engineer. The maintenance activities supervised by this position will include repairs, preventive maintenance and projects. Supervision duties will include personnel issues and documentation, obtain quotes, purchase needed supplies and equipment, provide long term planning and set priorities of subordinate's workload. Project coordination which includes scheduling work and obtaining supplies, communication between trades and ensuring work is performed to standards and specifications. ALL employees of Murdoch Center are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events. About Murdoch Developmental Center: Murdoch Developmental Center is a 24/7 state residential facility located in Butner, NC, near the Research Triangle area. Requirements

  • Associate's degree in construction management, air conditioning, heating and refrigeration technology, industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive experience in construction or facility maintenance including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five (5) years of progressive experience in facility maintenance or construction including journey level experience in at least three (3) building or mechanical trades including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities
  • an equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • working knowledge of commercial electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work
  • licensed in at least one of the above mentioned trades. (please upload a copy of license)
  • valid driver's license
