About The Position

The Department of Public Safety's mission is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people of North Carolina through preparation, prevention, and protection with integrity and honor. The agency houses many public safety divisions, including Emergency Management, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Alcohol Law Enforcement, Samarcand Training Academy, and the North Carolina National Guard. This full-time position (40 hours per week) is within the Construction and Facilities Management Office (CFMO), which is responsible for all engineering issues affecting National Guard facilities statewide. This includes programming, design, and construction of new facilities, as well as maintaining, modifying, or expanding existing facilities, monitoring utilities consumption, and ensuring environmental compliance. The work within the CFMO is highly dynamic, requiring employees to learn and embrace new technologies, procedures, policies, and criteria.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
  • Four (4) years of progressive experience in facility maintenance or construction
  • Experience in at least three (3) building or mechanical trades
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
  • May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F

Nice To Haves

  • Experience of repair, maintenance or construction techniques
  • Experience estimating the cost of repairs and construction projects
  • Experience with NC State Procurements
  • Experience with supervising subordinates

Responsibilities

  • Writing and submitting forecasts
  • Estimating and maintaining the operations/maintenance budget to support the maintenance/repair program
  • Supervising performance of work staff
  • Managing quality control on maintenance performed
  • Providing technical supervision, feedback, plans, and supporting employees in career development opportunities
  • Participating in planning and implementing changes in operations
  • Tracking work order documents for completion and accountability
  • Working within assigned budgets
  • Submitting equipment and supply requests
  • Assigning state purchase orders with proper budget codes
