About The Position

The Mail Theft Triage and Maintenance Support position provides task-specific support for volume attack Mail Theft investigations in the Inspection Service field division offices. The analyst will augment career staff to ensure: mail receptacles identified by the Inspection Service as requiring repair or are vulnerable to theft receive the appropriate repair or security enhancement, coordination with USPS Maintenance, the timely triage of recovered mail, the processing of evidence, and the execution of related Victim Notification support activities.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university AND a minimum of three years of work experience demonstrating the ability to organize information and communicate results effectively orally and in writing.
  • General knowledge of federal statutes
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing sufficient to express thoughts and ideas to a variety of people
  • Proficiency conducting research on the internet and commercial as well as public databases
  • Ability to assist in the analysis of investigative results and present sound recommendations for additional investigative action
  • Ability to assist in the development of civil and/or criminal cases for prosecution
  • Ability to perform the appropriate analytical techniques or methods
  • Ability to support complex criminal and/or civil investigations
  • Ability to effectively work with direct supervision
  • Ability to support the preparation of a final work product
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Must be a U.S Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
  • Favorable credit check for all cleared positions
  • Successfully passing a background investigation including drug screening.
  • Must have mobility to attend meetings with other managers and employees.
  • Standing for prolonged and extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to write, type and use a telephone system 100% of the time.
  • Sitting for prolonged and extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the US Postal Service and Mail Theft Investigations is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure relevant USPS stakeholders are notified of Mail Receptacle break-ins
  • Liaison with Homeowner Associations, Apartment Complex Managers, etc., to identify and facilitate Mail receptacle upgrades or replacements
  • Coordinate and maintain relationships with mailbox venders, USPS Engineering, and USPS Maintenance
  • Assist with the ordering, deployment, and tracking of keys and locks for each appropriate unit.
  • Monitor the time needed to replace damaged mail receptacles
  • Streamline and troubleshoot the repair and replacement process to achieve established standards
  • Verify equipment repairs, replacements, and upgrades were completed as planned.
  • Monitor and track USPS Arrow Key accountability.
  • Review of mail theft related crime reporting
  • Ensure Break-in Reports are complete and entered into supporting systems
  • Analyze data to identify risk areas
  • Designate units to be upgraded with enhanced security features.
  • Identify mail of evidentiary value, contact customers, and coordinate authorization to retain.
  • Document & return mail to customers. Communication with customers will be via email and letter mail.
  • Photocopying, data entry, disposition, etc.
  • VES data entry.
  • Coordinate Victim Notification Mailings - Coordinate victim survey mailings and form letters, process responses, create and maintain spreadsheets.
